Winter considerations for your p'let:

With the change of seasons, there are factors to be considered for the health and welfare of your companion pet.

Things such as:

  • helping your pet stay warm during cooler temps

  • bathing in winter?

  • do you need to raise the humidity in your aviary?

  • does your bird need vitamin D in winter?

  • nutritional factors for Winter wellness

Here is a link to an article by Diane Burroughs on these topics:

Winter Considerations...

Bugs bugging you?

Hopefully you have never been bugged by those little, pesky creatures that sometimes catch a ride in your bird seed, but sooner or later, you may find your bird food has just such unwelcome guests!

Since bird food can not be treated with pesticide, and we wouldn't want it to be, even the most hygienic conditions can yield bird foods that contain these added tidbits of protein.

Not to worry, you don't need to pitch your food. As a matter of fact, these offensive little creatures are a part of your p'lets natural diet in the wild.

Take a look at these strategies to deal with a potentially "pesky" problem provided by NatureChest.com.

Bug Ridding Strategies

Did you know...?

  • Parrotlets were first kept in a menagerie in France, in 1682.

  • They were imported after World War II until the 1970's when export restrictions severely curtailed the number of parrotlets imported.

  • Parrotlets are fairly easy and inexpensive to maintain.

  • In the wild, they are found in flocks from about 10-50 birds.

  • This breed of parrot originated primarily in North-Western Mexico and Northern South America.

Chewy.com provides very helpful and informative information in this article named, "Parrotlets: Pint-Sized Parrots". The link is below.
