On the 29th of December 2023 a visit to Braila by Magdalena Pardel, D-PATH project coordinator, took place to meet the Dissemination WP coordinator Viorica Alexandru , head of Asociatia Initiativa Cetatenilor Seniori. The visit included a discussion about the D-PATH event to take place in the period 7-9 May 2023 at Braila, checking the provisional venues, preliminary talks on the content and event program, audiences to benefit on the indoor and outdoor activities and meeting the main local partner Alina Sulicu, Director of Braila County Heritage Centre. |

International News : The Artifical Pancreas |

Medical News Today reports on a trial with an artificial pancreas on people with type 2 diabetes . The trial was conducted by the scientists from Cambridge University. The artificial pancreas is a closed-loop system including an insulin pump and glucose monitor which are linked to an app the researchers developed. By the end of the trial, the participants who used the artificial pancreas stayed in their target glucose range for twice as long as they did without the artificial pancreas. The College includes a 3 years post secondary nursing training program for general medical nurses and nurse assistants, balneo-physiotherapy and recovery nurses , pharmacy assistants , radiology nurses, hygiene and public health nurses, laboratory assistants. The College Vice-Principal Nicoleta Stamate is in charge with the nurse training program . She signed the protocol of cooperation between the College and Initiativa Cetatenilor Seniori | Facebook lead by Viorica Alexandru, representing the D-PATH project in Romania. |

Based on the protocol of cooperation the College makes available the venue, technology and resources as well as three staff and manager. They will benefit from of the D-PATH project workshops on diabetes and game sessions on the 1st day, outdoor activity in the Danube Delta in day 2, and cooking show in day 3. A certificate of participation and Europass will be released for participants. |

A local D-PATH team including was set up. It includes Mihai Balaban - culinary nutritionist, Silvana Dewald - family doctor, Silvia Albu - trainer for personal development and Viorica Alexandru - coordinator of D-PATH event at Braila, Romania . They will develop together a Cooking Show for the local D-PATH audience and the project team Their input is meant to provide a combination of knowledge to the participants, most of them with diabetes . The workshop will be focused on healthy eating guided by the culinary nutritionist from learning how to read labels of the food shelved in a super market, selecting a proper mix for lunch, preparing lunch and having it together . This workshop is adding to the project value meant to impede isolation and lifestyle degradation of people affected by diabetes in one way or another. |

The topic was ‘ Changing Perspectives ! Let’s Talk about Obesity!’ .Talks were invited starting with the following figures in mind: · 1.9 billion people around the world will be living with obesity in 2035 · $4.32 trillion is the estimated economic impact f overweight and obesity in 2035 · 100% childhood obesity increase between 2020 and 2035 · 1 in 4 people is expected to live with obesity by 2035. It built on the WOF’s statement from Feb 2023 : “Actions to address key SDoH have been insufficient worldwide, especially actions of unhealthy commodity industries, including tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy food and beverage industries. This inaction is driving the global burden of NCD mortality and morbidity (from cancers, diabetes, heart disease and stroke, chronic respiratory disease, mental health and neurological conditions) and NCD morbidity (e.g. billions living with oral health conditions)”. o The 9th National Conference of Patience Associations, 4-5 May, Bucharest , Romania on strong associations, protected patience, innovation and technology, challenges and solutions . o 24 May, 2023 100 years after the discovery of insulin marked by the EP. the European Parliament adopted a motion for resolution on Prevention, management and better care of diabetes in the EU on the Occasion of World Diabetes Day.
