Breakfast and Lunch

There is a new option for breakfast in Kaduwela. Land of Kings, the Game of Thrones themed restaurant, is now open from 8am to serve breakfast. So, perfect for stopping off for a hearty meal on the way to Winterfell.

Kottu anyone?  Kingrel by Palmyrah have a range of kottus available for delivery, starting from Rs280 for vegetable kottu, or Rs320 for egg kottu up to Rs550 for chicken & cheese kottu.

Remember Sugar Bistro, at Crescat Boulevard? Good news - they are back. Yes, they reopened this week and are now open daily from 8.30am to 11.00pm.

The Mandarina has relaunched their lunch for two deal, with a selection of classic dishes. For Rs1,750 you can get two nasi goreng, two spaghetti bolognese or two mongolian seafood rice.

High Tea and Dinner:

Ramada hotel has a high tea buffet on offer at weekends. Available on Saturdays and Sundays from 3.00pm to 6.00pm priced at Rs2,200 per person.

There's lots of western high teas available in Colombo with sandwiches, mini pies, scones and so on; there's also an Indian high tea. Now there is a Sri Lankan Style High Tea available too. With treats like murukku and kokis, it is available for pre-order from t-Lounge by Dilmah. 

You may have noticed there's a few places offering barbecue dinners at weekends. Well, here's one which you can enjoy from Monday to Thursday, for dinner or also for lunch. BBQ Avenue have barbecue platters for one, two, four or six people available from 12.00pm to 3.00pm and from 7.00pm to 10.00pm. wala. They have a full barbecue dinner on from 6.30pm. 

And of course there are lots of dinners to choose from on Friday, for 31st Night or New Year's Eve, as well as gigs, parties and more. We've got a few of the "different" ones listed below.

Happy Hours & Ladies' Night

We've not found much in the way of new happy hours or ladies' nights again this week, but of course it is another fairly busy week anyway.

However we did find one and it is quite an exceptional event. Hilton Colombo Residence has started a weekly event, "Connect@6", taking place on Saturdays at their poolside. It's a socialising event, a networking evening, for meeting and connecting with new people. Happening every Friday from 6pm until 10pm, there is also a happy hour for the first two hours. And yes it is happening this Friday.

Some of the happy hours might be suspended this Friday but hopefully not all! Taphouse has 1+1 deals from 6.30 to 8.30 and 10.00 to 11.00 on 31st and some others have drinks deals too. 

Live Music and DJs

This week is a bit odd of course because of New Year's Eve on Friday. Thursday is trying to be normal but is never a big gig night anyway; Friday is the big one; Saturday is quiet - we're not sure if that's because everyone is recovering, or if the gigs are just not yet announced - it could be either!

Anyway on Thursday there's Luminosity playing at Darley Road, Ravin Ratnam is playing at Re.pub.lk and Dillon will  be at the Fox Den.

On Saturday, The Warehouse Project will be playing at SunsetBlu.

For DJ music, Thursday looks like a good night at Ask for Fern and the Chiller Room with DJs Dirty Dzn, Ricardo Deen, Mercue and Rekko on the decks for a night of Old Skool vs New Skool.  Over at Love Bar, it's Trev D and Ludispex.

On Saturday, again it's either a quiet night or not announced yet, apart from The Love Bar where Trev D, Moonkillexx and Henricus will be driving the tunes.

Friday of course there's parties all across town. The big music event will be Oasis at Port City with international and local DJs and artists. For something a little more cozy, Omega will be at The Irish, Dream Caravan at On14, Warehouse Project at the Long Bar, Luminosity at Darley Road, Mintaka and DJ Bonnie at Curve Bar, Ohme at Honey Beach, Silk at Asylum, Daria's Family at Allstar and A Weekend Away at Ace Pub.  

There's big parties in the Clubs too of course, so a good chance to dance off the Christmas calories! It's a Masquerade Party at R&B with tunes from DJs Ricardo Deen and Capital C; It's NYE Rock at Ask for Fern and Chiller Room with DJs Moonkillexx, Mercue and Rekko; and there's five DJs at The Love Bar, namely Trev D, Ludispex, Lunatics, Henricus and Neco. There's also three DJs on at Butler's Pub and over at Level4 it's "mystic" night with three DJs on through the night.

Other Events

Salsa dancing is back at Playtrix this Thursday night from 8.30pm.  As well as the dancing, there is also a buy one, get one free offer on Mojito and Cuba Libre cocktails.

Have you been missing quiz nights?  You can squeeze in one more this year! It's on Thursday 30th at the Food Studio terrace, Colombo City Centre. The quiz is hosted by Dominic Kellar and starts at 7.00pm.

And of course it's new year. As you can imagine, there's gala dinners at most of the hotels and we've listed the music nights just above. So here's a few of the other options for seeing in the new year.

31st Night (New Year's Eve)

For a gastronomic new year, there's a very special seven course dinner party at Table by Taru.

If Barbecue is more your thing then The Joint is offering unlimited BBQ, along with live and DJ music in an outdoor setting.

Cloud Cafe at Colombo Court are offering an evening of nostalgia, with 80s and 90s DJ music, happy hours and bottle deals.

There's dinner, live music, DJ and fireworks at The Station, with a breakfast served at 3am.

And at Diyatha Station by Water's Edge you can enjoy a dinner buffet with music and fun, in the setting of a train and railway station.
