MidCity West NC - Social Racial Equity Committee ~ False and Defamatory Statements! Are they really advocating for a safer neighborhood or not?
Here's another great reason to attend a Mid-City West NC Social Racial Equity meeting. At the risk of being baited into an argument on totally unrelated issues, I need to let our readers know about something that happened at the last Social Racial Equity sub-committee meeting. During discussion after a presentation on public safety, the co-chair, Taylor Holland starts talking about our Wednesday Walks. She leads off with the comment "I think it was Shelby who said...'we need to take back our streets'...this is very aggressive and coded language".
Well, I suppose, at best, it's just an example of Taylor not really hearing what I said in regards to our Wednesday Walks. I wrote to Taylor and Lauren Nichols to discuss why Taylor would even bring up MY name when I'm not there to defend myself and to clear up any misunderstanding in regards to what I had said along with giving her the opportunity to ask me any additional questions in regards to our Wednesday Walks. It's been 5 days and Taylor has not reached out to resolve anything or to apologize for the defamatory remarks attributed to me.
I have spoken with Lauren Nichols, the president of MCW and she agrees that the use of my name should not have been done. OK, that's encouraging. But where's Taylor Holland? In my opinion, this is really HER failure to understand just how frustrating it is for our older neighbors to leave their homes in the evening and take a walk because they are so afraid of being robbed or mugged. So let me repeat this again...It's a neighborhood walk that provides an opportunity to meet your neighbors, walk in the comfort and safety of a large group and get off the couch. Trying to make this into anything else just ignores the needs of some of our most vulnerable residents in the Melrose area.
I could only guess what Taylor Holland was trying to do or get across. The meeting seemed to just dwell on this comment for a little while further. But using my name and our neighborhood walk really didn't leave me with the feeling that she thought this was really a genuine, neighborhood centric and wholesome idea that would help with public safety. She left me wondering what in the world "coded language" is and why the public attack on me. I'm a stakeholder that devotes so much of my free time to making our community safer. Maybe at best is was her way of finally getting her meeting added to the calendar below and finding a way to get me to attend (since NO public stakeholders attended her last meeting)!
The meeting was over 90 minutes long so if you would like to save some time and get to the exact part of the meeting and details for when these comments began please feel free to email me on our "contact us" link.
These are my thoughts & opinions only.
