March Newsletter

Happy National Women's Month! (and International Women's Day on today!)

To all my ladies, let me take this time to celebrate you and the unique individual you are.  With all the skill and flaws that make you who you are, we celebrate it all!  All that you are makes you uniquely qualified to service your students, patients and clients.  Don't forget that!

March Challenge

Quarterly check in!! March ends the first quarter of the year, so it's time to do a cheek in on your goals.  Have you set your goals for the year? (Go back to the archives for the January newsletter if you need a little push.)  Have you started planning and working your plan?  Go back and revisit your personal and professional goals and monitor where you are (or actually get around to writing down your goals for some of us!).  I challenge you to practice maintaining the same energy we all had in January and keep at your goals!!

March Share

My slightly nerdy form of entertainment is google-ing all the random national days there are.  Since I am all about functional therapy and will literally take anything and make it into a therapy lesson, this is my share with you this month.

We all have moments when we just need an idea of material to use to facilitate the amazing goals we've written or even just as a way get conversation going at the start of therapy, etc.  Try out this site for all the national days and incorporate this into your therapy activities in a meaningful way.

Here's an example of how my mind works when I do it. March 10th is National  Blueberry Popover Day (no idea what this is, but no problem!).  I know blueberries are food item so I'm going to take this  topic starter and run with it.  In celebration of "National Blueberry Popover Day" I can....

  1. Do a self contained class unit on food, the grocery store, or even have some  fun with food art and outline steps for a recipe for following directions
  2.  Do cognitive and language based therapy by naming food items from a local grocery ad, practice finding items in the grocery store by isle, using store signs, or have your client follow instructions for a new recipe (keeping safety in mind)
  3. Create a poll of "Hot or Not' fruit and other food items based on personal preference.  For language targets, we can describe the item, explain why it's "Hot" or "Not", etc.
  4.  I could go on......but you get it!  (Email me for more ideas! I do this for fun!)

Until next time....

Stay safe.

Stay well.

Happy National Women's Month!
