Announcements

Congratulations to Xuezhu Zhang for receiving the Henry N. Wagner Jr. Best Paper Award, and to Edwin Leung for his 1st place poster in the Physics, Instrumentation & Data Sciences Track!

Xuezhu's abstract, titled "Total-Body Parametric Imaging using Kernel and Direct Reconstruction on the uEXPLORER", was singularly chosen out of thousands of abstracts submitted to the SNMMI meeting. Edwin's poster, titled "Relationships between noise-equivalent count rates for extended NEMA NU 2-like scatter phantoms and a human subject scanned using the EXPLORER total-body PET scanner" won first place in the Physics, Instrumentation & Data Sciences Track. Congratulations again to Xuezhu, Edwin, and the MIPET group! (Davis attendees pictured below, on the left)

Congratulations to Marina Gabriel, Dan Lewis, and all of our UC Davis presenters at the 19th Annual UC Bioengineering Systemwide Symposium at UC Merced!

We had a strong showing of UC Davis faculty, post-docs, and students at the 19th annual Bioengineering Symposium at UC Merced (students and post-docs pictured above, on the right). Special congratulations to Marina Gabriel and Dan Lewis, who each received an award for best of the rapid-fire talks in their session, meaning UC Davis took home 2 of the 3 awards!

Congratulations to Dr. Gerald Quon and his lab on his NSF Career Award!

The Quon Lab was recently awarded an NSF CAREER award titled "CAREER: Inference of transcriptional regulation under environmental perturbations". Well done!

          Previous BESA Events

          Academic Year-End BMEGG Barbecue

We had a great number of graduate students, post-docs, and BMEGG faculty attend our year-end BBQ. It was a fun combination of good food, engaging conversations, and even some volleyball and cornhole. Looking forward to seeing everyone again at the Fall BBQ!

          June Work-in-Progress Lunch

For the June work-in-progress talk, Dr. Randy Carney gave a summary of his lab's scope. Thank you to the BESA social chairs, Hark and Brent,  for hosting the event, and to Dr. Carney for an exciting presentation.

*Note: We are currently working on changing the format of these monthly student-faculty events, perhaps to something more interactive. Be on the lookout for updates on this, and let us know if you have any ideas.

          June Coffee Hour

Our final BESA meeting of the school year doubled as a coffee hour social to pass over the leadership to the next board. We are excited to see what happens with BESA in the coming school year.
