What have we all learned these past few months? About ourselves, our communities, our governments, about what/who is most essential to us individually and as a society? About what we considered to be normal lives and routines?
How will we move forward in these next few months with clarity on what is truly important?
For me, personally, I actually chose to abandon my old routine in search of a greater purpose. I traveled for 3 months at the end of 2019 with no real stability or long term direction. When the pandemic hit shortly afterwards, it didn't knock me off of my so-called "normal" routine like it did to so many people. It actually forced me to stand still, center myself, and really focus on creating my own "routine" structured solely around the things that were essential for me, my family, and my greater community.
Here is what I learned is important to me, and the MorKinks brand:
1. Helping Black women and girls feel safe, protected, valued, empowered, and beautiful even during a pandemic.
2. Supporting and rebuilding our local Black-owned businesses and communities.
3. Nurturing other Black bodies, minds, and hair follicles.
4. Finding ways to stay connected with our mothers, daughters, granddaughters, and girl gangs.
5. Practicing self care.
6. Building wealth.
7. Inspiring a generation of Black female leaders to change the world.
These are the ideas that have fueled the decisions I've made and the time that I've spent during quarantine. I encourage you all to do the same, or continue to do the same. Now that we've gotten through the initial shock, fear, anxiety, the losses, the boredom, and the viral trends... let's take an honest look at how we start each day, end each day, and get through each day. Let's decide what is important to each of us, and start making the necessary changes now while there is still time.
MorKinks is here to guide you.
