ACES AND PLACES

We've got some Juniors heading to the Clay Court Nationals in Canberra! Best of luck to Aidan Chan, Karin Hiramatsu and Mayla Manoj. Go guys!!

Congratulations to Justin and Kelly Meares on their recent marriage! Justin sponsors our Club on behalf of the Fogarty Wine Group. Another congrats to Peter and Sandi Cook who are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.

A big cheer for Thomas McKenzie, Rohan Jessy, Aidan Chan and Luca Vujacic who recently won the Corr Cup for Wesley in the PSA Tennis Competition!

While the rest of us were eating too much chocolate, Anna Kelly and Pari Chandra took out the Easter Tennis Tournament at Belmont Park. Well done ladies!

A cheerio to Bob Wegner for a speedy recovery following a short spell in hospital. Get better soon!

Next time you see them give a huge high-5 to our very own Balsa Vujacic, Scott Wilson, April Jolly, and Juniors Madhavi Shrivastave and Hunter Kwietniewski-Lees who all took the top spot as MVP in their respective Divisions in the Summer Tennis League!

Tennis travellers: Rhoda and Gary Napier are enjoying the cool weather in Tassie, Graham Walker recently returned from a great trip with friends (ahem, golf!) to Melbourne, and Mike McLean and wife Anna are off to Europe to celebrate their Ruby Wedding Anniversary with a romantic river cruise.

Gordon Dunlop recently won an international online chess tournament against some fierce competition (one of his favourite activities when not on the court is playing 50 games simultaneously on his computer!).

Congratulations to our two oldest members, Arnold Jones and Jamin who have both just celebrated their 88th birthdays! Arnold and his wife Jenny are now off on a caravanning trip over East.

A big thank you to Soklich & Co Jewellers in Angelo Street for donating a $2500 gift voucher as first prize in our raffle which will be launched soon. Bax Chiropractic has jumped in with a full Initial Consult and Assessment and HPH Solutions have also donated a $250 Crown voucher. Keep your eye out for tickets!
Alec Whyte (Parry & Whyte Architects, one of our Club sponsors) has been working hard on some cool new renovation designs for the Club. Watch this space!

SUMMER LEAGUE FINALS

Our Women's State Team battled hard in the semi finals but were bested on the day by Peppermint Grove who went on to win the title.

It came down to the wire for our Men's State Team who lost out to Cottesloe in a long-fought, grass-and hard-court day but did Hensman proud.

Well done to all League players, and a special mention to the Team Captains for keeping the season running smoothly, and our wonderful reserves who filled-in all season.

TENNIS TRIVIA

DID YOU KNOW... Tennis is believed to have originated in the monastic cloisters in Northern France in the 12th century. Interestingly, the ball was then struck with palm of the hand. At that time it was named “jeu de paume” (game of the palm). Rackets came into use during the 16th century.

MEMBER PROFILE

ANTONIO TARZIA

Tony shares a birthday with French player Alize Cornet, but at 75 is a little older than her but just as competitive! Born in Calabria, Italy , Tony is the youngest of 3 brothers - some might say he’s the good looking one...
Tony came to Perth with his parents when he was only 13. Not being keen on school & academic studies, Tony took on a tiling apprenticeship before starting his own business, Coastal Tiling which he worked in until he retired nearly 10 years ago.
Tony lives in Duncraig & has a son (Robert) & daughter (Sharina).
One of Tony’s many talents is his ballroom dancing which he enjoys immensely.  Other interests include fishing, beach swimming, cycling (with an electric bike on the agenda), cooking Italian pastas & other delicacies & playing lawn bowls with the Master Builders & Sorrento Bowling Clubs.  He previously played basketball for a Kingsley team.
Although he has never played Aussie Rules, Tony is a passionate Freo Dockers supporter & remains confident of a premiership within his life time - like most other Docker ️ fans.
Tony has been a member of our Club for about 30 years & enjoys the competitive spirit of his fellow members & the opportunity to play on grass courts.
