It is better to solve one problem five different ways, than to solve five problems one way. -George Polya

Our goal is to decrease greenhouse gas levels. We have previously focused on decreasing production of emissions through efficiency, and this month we will focus on what absorbs carbon dioxide emissions: the trees around us. Trees also help protect us against the effects of climate change.

Learn

  • Arbor Day is this month! We need trees in so many ways to help us  adapt to a changing climate.
  • Here is a short story about the top 10 benefits of trees in cities. Other cities are also integrating trees in the urban environment.

Act

  • Volunteer with the Dearborn Area Nature Alliance. You can pull invasive species to protect existing trees!
  • Apply for a front yard tree in Decatur. It's only $25.
  • Trees Atlanta, a local organization, also has a ton of opportunities to plant in ATL. Choose a date that fits.
  • Get free seedlings to plant through the city of Decatur on Feb 19th.

Advocate..this will take you 5 minutes!

  • Sign the petition asking DeKalb county to strengthen its tree ordinance. And if you can, thank our city commissioners for recently passing more tree protections in Decatur!
  • Sign the petition for crucial climate provisions at the at the federal level.
  • Bookmark our website events page for ongoing opportunities at the city, county, state, and federal levels.
