This year has been difficult for everyone and Proving Innocence is no exception. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports freeing incarcerated individuals who were wrongfully convicted and aids exonerees upon their release. We work with the WMU-Cooley and U of M Law School Innocence Projects, the Wayne County and State of Michigan Conviction Integrity Units, and private investigators, assisting with the exoneration process and then again helping with the needs of an innocent individual when freed.
Our mission is accomplished solely through your donations. Donations are used to fund investigative services to help free the wrongfully convicted and for our Walking Free Fund. With the Walking Free Fund, eligible exonerees can receive up to $800.00 upon their release to help their successful reentry into society. We are in need of funds to keep our mission moving forward. Our goal for December 2020 is to raise at least $10,000.

The Walking Free Fund Provides $6,000 Assistance to New Exonerees |

The Walking Free Fund is designed to provide cash assistance to exonerees in the first couple of days of their being set free. It begins at a time when they literally have nothing. In 2020 PI gave $6,000 to 9 exonerees and we expect that number to go up before the end of the year. The worse thing an exoneree can do when she/he gets out is to go to someone for assistance who does not have their best interest in mind. So, along with the financial support, PI establishes a relationship with them and gives them contact information for vital resources which we have vetted.
