Academic Memories

Our September news and updates!

We are excited to announce a plethora of articles, an organizational collaboration, and some amazing opportunities for students in neuroscience.

What's New with AM?

This month we began our autumn articles, with over 20 written between the months of August and September. Thanks to the amazing work by our writers and editors, we have a vast range of unique topics discussed.

Additionally, we have begun collaborating with Research Girl, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting research to students in all branches of STEM.

Our most recent collaboration was a guide on building your first scientific resume! This includes skills to obtain outside of formal experience, as well as tips for building your resume from scratch.

Volunteer of the Month

Camaria Polk

Hello everyone! My name is Camaria and I’m a sophomore at Barnard College. I’m currently majoring in Neuroscience on the pre-medical track.

Regarding the topic of neuroscience, I am extremely passionate about neurodevelopmental disorders, especially autism, in adolescents and young children. Currently, I work at the Kahn Lab of Zuckerman Institute (ZI) where I conduct behavioral assays on C57 mice and mice with Alzheimer's genes, alongside fMRI work done by my mentor to explore brain neural networks.

As science editor for Academic Memories, I have been able to work alongside our writers to make neuroscience topics easier to digest, despite all of the jargon in the academic world. Accessibility of the sciences is something that I am a passionate advocate for, as I work with younger children to get them exposed to topics of neuroscience at ZI and high school students into getting into research in my other volunteer positions.

Outside of the sciences, I love to play soccer, grocery shop, and play with my precious cat, Poppy.
