ANOTHER WAY TO SAY ENTER - Dingle, Ireland |

Dear Friends, I hope this finds you well. Summer has been an amazing roller coaster and I've enjoyed every bit of it! I'm thankful for the time I was able to spend in Ireland as faculty with my beloved alma mater, USM Stonecoast MFA. I was also able to return to the amazing Women Writers in Bloom Poetry Salon in New York as the featured poet, take in the beautiful black poetic brilliance at the annual Cave Canem Summer Retreat, then stick around Pittsburgh to moderate Won't You Celebrate with Me: Poetry and Prose from the Director's Chair for the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics. To be in community with others practicing your craft is a necessary gift. How did you gift yourself time and space this summer? Alone time on the porch or quiet moments with a good book on the couch are ways I hope to secure some additional stillness as the fall schedule gears up. Remember, you have to tend to YOU first. This is how we move best in the world with our whole self ready for what may come. Warmly, Amanda P.S. You may have noticed I've stepped away from social media. Just taking a necessary break to rest and reset the heart rhythm above the algorithm. Peace. :-) |

I'm thrilled to be included in the powerful anthology WOMEN OF RESISTANCE: POEMS FOR A NEW FEMINISM and grateful The Rumpus took time to sit with it and mention my poem "When My Daughter Wasn't Assaulted" in this review.

"Amanda Johnston’s first book sings with the passion of our great warrior poets. They reassure me of a fierce connective tissue between us. Johnston’s poems apply just the right degree of salve and just the right degree of fire to our current American wounds." - Toi Derricotte Bookstore Orders: argushousepress@gmail.com

Cave Canem Foundation is near and dear to my heart. As a fellow and current board member, I know firsthand how Cave Canem supports Black poets with the necessary time, space, and encouragement needed to dream, create, and grow. Thank you for your continued support for this "home for black poetry."
