Style Guide

Almost a month until we hike, get snuggly on a mountaintop, and photograph your adventure session! Before that day comes, here are some style tips:

01

outfit: HER

You can't go wrong with a flowy dress! Not only will it blow with the wind to create beautiful movement, but having something non-restricting after hiking is a major plus!

sleeves, sleeveless, strapless?

I recommend wearing whatever kind of style you normally would- what you feel comfortable and confident in.

long? short?

Whatever you feel comfortable with, but I think a long dress with a slit for easy movement, or even a high/low dress would be perfect!

outfit: HIM

While girls get to wear a nice light flowy dress, guys have the sufferfest of usually wearing long pants/shirt

I recommend wearing more breathable pants (not jeans!) and paring it a nicer shirt whether that's long or short sleeve, cotton or button up- whatever floats your boat!

What color?

While it's important to go along the same color pallet, I definitely recommend wearing either a really light or really dark colored shirt as to not show sweat. The middle ground colors like gray will show sweat really obviously.

DOs and DONTs

Try to avoid:

  • busy patterns (small lines/checkers)
  • vibrant red/pinks. Very vibrant colors like red casts a hue on the other person’s face which is hard to remove during editing.

I encourage you to:

  • wear colors in a similar pallet, without wearing the same color
  • think light, summery colors: white, blue, yellow, tan, etc.
  • wear something you feel confident in or a color that is “your color”.

Shoes:

You can wear your hiking boots the whole time, go barefoot, or bring a change of flats. I don't recommend heels.

Hair:

I recommend wearing your hair down either straight or in loose waves. Similarly to the dress, having wind blow your hair in photos adds a really beautiful aspect.

Changing:

Since we'll be on top of a mountain, you'll be changing in public. It may be beneficial to bring towel we can hold up for privacy or a big shirt you can wear to change under.

Whatever you decide to wear, make it something that you'll look back on and remember feeling comfortable and confident. Always aim to be your authentic self. So much of photography is reminiscing the experience. The last thing I want is for you to look back on this adventure and feel anything less than thrilled.
