NOTE Our Off-Season Hours

After a fantastic 2019 maple season, the Pancake House Restaurant is now closed. The Maple Gift Shoppe remains open by appointment or chance.  Planning ahead? Call 613-256-3867 or email us at info@fultons.ca to set up a shopping date - we're always  happy to open the shoppe and help you find what you are looking for.

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 12. We have lots of great items in the Maple Gift Shoppe for Mom, including some lovely spa products. Father's Day is Sunday, June 16- consider something for Dad from Fulton's, perhaps a BBQ gift pack or some yummy treats. Make it a one-stop shopping day!

Scribbles by Shirley

Well here we are in May, the 39th season under my belt and our 50th season of the Pancake House. A season of reconnection, memories, celebration and fun.

We had a fabulous maple syrup production year. Scott's summer/ fall work of adding 2000 taps certainly showed in the ever-full sap tanks, almost overflowing some days.

We produced mainly Amber (the first boils were almost Golden) but we did have great flavoured Dark and Very Dark grades this year. For all our Very Dark lovers, this is the year to stockpile. We often do not make Golden and/ or Very Dark. Did you know that Mother Nature determines the grade that we get?  All four grades have the same sugar content and consistency; the darker grades have a stronger maple flavour.

We had an excellent group of experience providers in 2019, including: Randy and Toby from Mitchell's Sleigh Rides with their teams of beautiful horses; Chad Clifford from Wilderness Rhythms providing interpretive programs on the Heritage Maple Path; Ken Ramsden's musical repertoire of family favourites; and Charlie Dunlap and friends providing entertainment for Celtic Music Days.

Finishing up a seasonal business is a relief but it is also bittersweet. More than fifty of us, including staff, some experience-providers and a few spouses, celebrated our year-end at an informal gathering where we shared stories and laughs from the season and an excellent meal together.

Most staff have now moved on to other seasonal jobs and the sugar bush is fairly quiet. Lacey is happily sleeping her days away  in the office and the parking lot is empty. The year-round staff are now cleaning, counting, planning for next year and enjoying each other's company in a more relaxed environment. We will also be serving visitors to the Maple Gift Shoppe (open by chance or appointment), filling online and wholesale orders and taking some downtime to recharge our batteries! Speaking of winding down, we will not likely publish another Fulton's Gazette until the Fall.

Every year I enjoy working with Team Awesome staff and volunteers and our wonderful customers, many who return year after year to Fulton's. I wish everyone a restful spring and look forward to hosting you in 2020.

Sweet maple wishes to you,

Shirley Fulton-Deugo

Our Creative Partners

There is nothing better than to work with local, efficient, timely and like-minded businesses. The creative folks from these businesses help us look really good! They are a delight to work with and are always so accommodating to our many requests.

The year 2019 is the 50th anniversary of Fulton`s Pancake House. Auni Milne of Sumac Loft put the finishing touches on our 50th logo, updated our usual logo,  created a batch of new trail signs and provided marketing advice.

Leanna, Blair and Rodney at Pxlworks Inc. & The Almonte Sign Company helped with design and production of trail signs, our new photo booth, signage and product labels. Leanna Lowry is an honorary member of Team Awesome; we are in contact with her almost daily during our maple season, and pretty much have her on speed dial.

KBR Screenprint and Embroidery printed our staff shirts and made Team Awesome look just fabulous.

The cooperation between these three creative local businesses is outstanding.

Thanks also to Ryan from Brosseau`s Custom Shelving for design and build of our Photo Booth, which has had lots of use this season, and to Todd Martin for assembling and installation of the new Fulton`s signs.

Below is a sampling of the work of these fine folk that we are so proud to partner with.

Giving Thanks to Our Suppliers

Behind the scenes are our many suppliers and partners, many of which we've had alliances with for more than 25 years. These folks supply us with maple bacon donuts, coffee, maple chocolate, paintings, containers and equipment, outhouses, sausage and bacon, fire extinguishers, oil, propane, milk, labels and print material, kitchen supplies, paper bags and much, much more!

A shout out to some of those suppliers who have gone above and beyond:

  • To Frank at W.O. Stinson & Son Ltd. for deliveries of propane in ANY kind of weather, and to Carl (the burner technician) for making a service call when his Dad was extremely ill.
  • To Mike from Mike McNeely & Son, who provide milk for the Pancake House. Mike delivered milk to us on Easter Sunday!
  • Marion and Don Dodds from Springdale Maple Farm Products for their support, expertise and many years of supplying us with all things needed in the sugar camp.

New York Times Article Features Fulton's

Earlier this season we hosted New York Times staff who shadowed us for a couple of days with a writer and photographer as we went about a typical day at the sugar bush. You can read the full article here.

Taffy for 500

Fulton's Team Awesome travelled to Ottawa recently to staff an annual off-site taffy party for 500, hosted by a property management company who wanted to say thanks to building tenants and staff. We sure were popular in the building! We drew taffy connoisseurs from all over.

As well as pouring taffy and handing it out to passersby, we had an opportunity to showcase and sell some of our Fulton's Pancake House & Sugar Bush sweet treats and Maple Luscious Spa products. What a pleasure to be a part of this fun day; after all who doesn't like handing out free taffy?

Paying It Forward

Each year at Fulton's we have a Pay It Forward bucket on the counter near our restaurant cash. As a longstanding tradition our graduating staff (teens moving on to post-secondary schooling) choose a cause or organization dear to their hearts to donate the funds to. Last year the funds were directed to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County. This year graduating staff member Robyn Stanton has chosen Ronald McDonald House Ottawa We are pleased to provide them with a donation of $660.

Body Polish

The Fairmont Le Château Montebello requested a body polish for their spa clients, so Fulton's created this fabulous new maple-based gentle exfoliant as part of our Maple Luscious Bath and Body Line. Available in person in the Fulton's Maple Gift Shoppe or online here. Cost is $20 for 250ml pump bottle.

A fabulous gift for Mom for Mother's Day!

Recipe of the Month

Maple Marinade

Barbeque season is here! This tasty Maple Marinade can be used with your choice of meat. Made with Fulton's Organic Maple Syrup, we recommend using it with chicken, salmon or pork! A great suggestion for a Mother's Day meal.
