Zero Foodprint Asia

August Newsletter

Dear Friends of Zero Foodprint Asia,

We're so excited to present you our first newsletter! We'll be sending these out on a monthly basis to share updates like ZFPA's latest developments, our newest F&B partners, farmer features, industry news, the regenerative agriculture movement, and ways to get involved with ZFPA initiatives! No matter who you are, a consumer, a chef, a farmer, or anyone in between, we should all be involved to create a more equal, ethical and nutritious, local food system. We believe a renewable food economy is possible when all stakeholders in our food system partner together and play a part in supporting regenerative agriculture. If none of this rings a bell or if you'd simply like to find out more, do keep reading!

Newly On Board!

Thank you to the 7 pilot restaurants for stepping up to the challenge and aspiring to stay accountable and impactful with your contributions. Ando, Bedu, Mono, Mott 32, Uma Nota, Limewood and Sip Song! New partners who recently joined and are now pledging 1% of their customers' bills to our Restore Fund include: Aaharn, Shady Acres and Honky Tonks! More to follow in the coming weeks so let's start restoring our planet today! Click below to get involved.

Pilot Farming Project

Through the Restore Fund (to which our ZFPA partners contribute), we issue grants to farmers ready and willing to adopt regenerative farming methods; proven as the most resourceful and natural way to grow more nutritious crops, restore soil biodiversity, and to keep carbon where it belongs - in the soil.

On Monday, the 23rd of August, we kick-started our first pilot farm project, Noah's Forest in Ta Kwu Ling. A 10,000 sqf space covered with 20+ years of untouched lush trees, wild weeds and so much potential. Ms Josephine from Homeland Green and some of her volunteers spent the afternoon teaching us the ins and outs of healthy soil, how to measure it, as well as the common misconceptions. Interested to learn more and find out how you can test the quality of the fruit and vegetables you buy?

In the News

Thank you Green Queen for the write-up! We gathered some of our pilot restaurants and asked them why they chose to integrate the 1% pledge and how it has impacted their business. No one can solve this crisis on their own, but tiny contributions add up to power in order to create dramatic change. Click the link below to hear why Agustin from Ando, Laura from Meraki Hospitality Group, and Katelyn from Maximal Concepts joined the 1% pledge.

Global Impact

The Zero Foodprint family is rapidly expanding and we're thrilled to share with you the extension of the Nordic and Deutschland arms that also launched earlier this summer! Worldwide we have now mobilized over 70 restaurants helping to fund the transition to regenerative agriculture on 36 different farms and expecting to remove over 18,000 tons of carbon (and counting!) from the atmosphere! To put that into perspective that is equivalent to almost 45,000 homes' electricity use for one year.

Surplus Project

Our newly launched side program, the Surplus Project, will redistribute farm surplus at a reduced price to our ZFPA community! Surpluses at the farm can often occur due to i) unforeseen climate changes, ii) a misjudgment in planting requirements, iii) miscommunication between purveyors and farmers,  and iv) for larger farms, the power control of centralized food systems (supermarkets chains). Help Magic Organics out and order some of these fresh, delicious, organic pumpkins - just in time for Halloween! Order directly over Whatsapp +852 6683 9119 or via their website link below.

Industry News

If you’re in need of a wake-up call, the latest IPCC (UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report is IT. In the past, this very report built the foundation of the Paris Agreement and today it’s telling us that our planet is warming at an unprecedented rate, which is also the direct cause of extreme weather events.

And guess what - human-kind is responsible for it. The earlier we realize that climate change is a reality and it’s progressively getting worse, the sooner we as humanity can minimize and reverse its impact by drawing down atmospheric carbon. If there’s any time to act, it’s NOW. If you haven’t had a chance to read up on the report itself, here’s an article that will hopefully get you in gear to prepare for what’s to come next.

We help farmers create better soil, better food, and a better planet - by giving grants funded by small donations collected at the point of sale.

Regenerative Agriculture what?

Zero Foodprint helps farmers implement regenerative farming practices - also known as carbon farming - which restores the life of the soil. This healthy soil grows more nutritious, tastier food for all of us while capturing carbon from the atmosphere. If you're still relatively new to what we do here at ZFPA and have never heard of Regen Ag/carbon farming don't you worry - we've got you covered! Below we've compiled some of our go to resources to learn more.
