Rosa's Cantina

I visited my parents in El Paso over the weekend and sought out several places featured in Tequila Midnight, most of which I hadn't been to in years. One of these was Rosa's Cantina which became famous in Marty Robbin's classic song "El Paso." The story is described on the menu (the menu photo above is a little hard to read).

In the novel, Jessica is looking for fun. She passes tables with families having dinner to get to the bar. Once there, her only company is the bartender and an old cowboy drinking iced tea.

My friend, Pancho Mangan, introduced me to Rosa's when he took me there for lunch when we worked at the City of El Paso. I had driven by it many times before but always figured it was a biker bar, not a restaurant (as did Jessica).

Yesterday, the food was great, the TV was set to the rodeo channel, and more than a couple of motorcycles were parked out front.

Rosa's is a local icon. What famous/infamous place do you love?

Thank You!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Launch Party! What a great night.

Michele Montgomery won a shot glass set for having the best drink: Tequila with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, Canton ginger liqueur and a squeeze of lime. Heavily iced.

Sheryn Hoges won the signed copy of Tequila Midnight for asking the best question.

A special thanks to Jocelyn Linsday, friend, writer, book coach, and emcee extraordinaire!

Travel Stories: the Animal Edition

I grew up surrounded by animals. I rode horses, had cats and dogs, and my dad raised parrots, snakes, and tropical fish (not all at the same time). My mother is a patient woman.

I've included Tela the Catahoula Leopard dog in Tequila Midnight. In the next novel, The Podcast Chronicles, the main character Sue has a horse named Samson.

I love coming across animals in my travels. Last summer in Iceland, an enormous cat we nicknamed Chonckers sat in the center of a main tourist thoroughfare and rolled over for belly rubs whenever anyone passed by.

In Pinnacles National Park in California, we rounded the corner on a hike one morning and came across a flock of California Condors sunning themselves. It was amazing, and although you can't tell from the photo, they were huge.

And, finally, there were the beauties in the video below on our balcony in Airlie Beach, Australia.

I'd love to hear your favorite animal-related travel story.
