Launching #LetsTalkClimate

Pōneke Wellington!

What is the Let's Talk Climate workshop about?

Welcome to #LetsTalkClimate! We are so excited to deliver our FREE workshop to you in your local community. We are kicking with our foundational workshop on how to have good conversations about climate change.

We have a big shared problem that we aren't really talking about with each other. Yet, often we are advised to have more conversations about climate change and starting these conversations can feel awkward and messy. It isn't always an easy subject to talk about, especially if we are feeling overwhelmed, think we won't agree or worry about conflict.

#LetsTalkClimate aims to equip you with the skills to have good conversations about climate change. When we have good conversations, we experience or deepen a sense of connection, feel like we have been understood and also understand another perspective a bit better. Purely exchanging information or winning an argument is not the goal. The more we can constructively talk about climate change with each other, the more inclusive the solutions will be that work for everyone.

Note: Let's Talk Climate workshops leads into workshops two and three (in development) which will cover Local Impacts with Local Led Solutions and Turning Talk Into Action.

What can you expect?

In our workshops, you will learn about REALTALK principles and put them to practice.

Respect your conversational partner and find common ground
Enjoy the conversation
Ask questions
Listen, and show you have heard

Tell your story
Action makes it easier (but doesn't fix it)
Learn from the conversation
Keep going and keep connected

#LetsTalkClimate is about building genuine relationships and communities with people who care about our climate (potentially for different reasons than you) and want a better future for all tamariki.

"Climate change can seem overwhelming, but each of us has this superpower - of talking with and engaging the people we love, who talk to other people, who talk to other people, who talk to other people, until everyone is talking about it, which changes public and political will for climate action.

And it all starts with a simple conversation!"

Dr. Anthony Leiserowitz, Director of the Yale University Program on Climate Change Communication
