Sausalito's Important Working Waterfront

A Hub for Maritime Activity

Getting boats in and out of the water happens everyday in the Marinship! Cranes, shipways, travel-lifts and even trucks are used.

The yards are full and active with newer boats and wooden classics, as recent boat sales and other local working waterfront closures have drawn more business to our local businesses.

Parker Diving, in the Marinship, utilizes a 1950s era landing craft in some of its salvage operations. Here the vessel is hauled out at Bayside Boatworks for a major overhaul.

First it was Candela Electric Foil boats in Sausalito. Now Navier has also arrived in the waters off Sausalito. Members of the Working Waterfront Coalition and the Blue Economy Task Force were hosted for a test-ride. Both companies are potentially looking at Sausalito as a destination for waterfront taxi service as well as for private vessel sales. That may be several months off and hopefully there is room for both. But we hope that each of these companies take a close look at Sausalito for final outfitting and servicing in our industrial working waterfront area.

Sausalito Sea Lion to be repaired in the Marinship

A group of fabricators in the Marinship including Alec Shaw, Reason Bradley and Malcolm Morgan will be repairing the Sea Lion damaged after years of exposure in the harsh seawater environment. The Sausalito Foundation will collect tax-deductible donations here to fund the repairs.

Hank Easom, Sail Racing Legend

Sausalito sailing legend Hank Easom passed on to the other side on February 14th at the age of 89. Hank, who sailed for 81 years, was considered one of the best sailors in the bay area. He sailed his last race on February 4th. He finished first in class, division and overall by 30 minutes. Hank owned the infamous 8-meter Yucca for 52 years. The boat changed ownership but is still racing in the bay. Easom Boat Works in the Marinship built and repaired boats of all sizes and shapes for 35 years. With a reputation as master boat builder, Hank was known for his craftsmanship, innovation, work ethic and honesty in business. Fair Winds, Hank!

Spaulding Boat will honor Hank on Saturday, March 25th, 6-9pm. Local filmmaker Oleg Harencar will share a few words of remembrance before showing his film Hank Easom: Portrait of a Legend. See Trailer below.
