Dear WHECES, Thank you so much for attending Back to School Night. It was great seeing everyone in person. Our first school-wide assembly will be on Friday, September 16 at 8:05 am. Parents will be invited to attend. We ask that parents stand in the designated areas and not with their children. Assemblies will then be held on the first Friday of each month. The LAUSD school calendar includes four additional days for optional, targeted, accelerated instructional opportunities, spread out throughout the year, which will provide real-time support and assistance to catch up and meet grade-level standards or earn a C or better in their courses or t get ahead. These optional student acceleration days will occur on the following Wednesdays: October 19, December 7, 2022, March 15, and April 19, 2023. The acceleration days are designed to benefit those who need to cover the most academic ground and will address the critical goals of the board, including literacy, numeracy, and credit recovery to reach proficiency and be prepared for college and career success. Beyond the Bell will be available to support students that are not invited to participate in the intensive instruction on Acceleration Days. Beyond the Bell services will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Acceleration Days. Sincerely, Christina Desiderio |

HERO What an amazing few weeks it has been with the HERO Campaign!!!! The amount of support, kind words, and contributions have been overwhelming and I can’t thank you all enough……you’re making it very hard for this to be my last year as HERO Chair but making every second I put into it worth it. Every. Single. Second. You’re all the absolute best and what amazingly generous families we have at WHECES!
As much as has been donated…..I’m still far from the $150K goal (yes, I increased it from my last blast post but that’s because of the energy from last week’s PATT meeting!)
Any donation will get your child a HERO shirt AND one (1) car magnet. A larger amount will get you many more amazing items (the more you give, the more you get, the more our school benefits!). A form with details has been attached and a more detailed email will be going out to families soon. The original HERO form/FAQ was also sent home in the Back to School packet so please be sure to complete it and turn it in to the office (in the HERO box) or to your child’s classroom. Also, if you have a business and would like a corporate banner, an option to purchase one is on the form as well.
The class that has 100% participation in the HERO campaign will earn a class pizza party AND each student in that class will receive a gift certificate for one (1) scoop of ice cream from Cup and Cone.

Birthday Marquee Celebrate your WHECES student’s birthday by having their name posted on our school’s Birthday Marquee. Many spots are still available and it only costs $30 (all proceeds go to PATT benefitting the students of WHECES)! Your child’s name will appear Monday through Sunday for all their friends to see so sign up today by going to:

The Marquee is updated on Monday mornings. Therefore, the deadline to sign up will be the Sunday the week you wish to have your child’s name appear. After that, no dates will be available to be added that week. No exceptions.
