ASA Books Is Staying Booked & Busy

We've been out and about, sharing our love of reading. For us, it's all about spreading positive messaging through our stories and encouraging you to find other stories that promote gratitude and appreciation.  We wanted to take some time to share some of what we've been up to, putting into the universe that there is much much more to come!

In May – ASA Books held a reading at Altgeld Murray Homes during their annual book fair. We read our 2 books; When The Sun Comes Up & When The Moon Comes Up, both of which were enjoyed by an awesome group of kids. We gifted a copy of both books to all the participating families.

In June - ASA Books donated 10% of our proceeds from the 1st annual Sponsor A Class Book Drive Campaign to the O'Neil Scholarship Fund, which helped gift 20 graduating students gift cards at Public School 11 and Public School 56, in Brooklyn, NY.

In June – ASA Books started the groundwork for our 1st audiobook.  We are venturing out into the world of audiobooks and held our first taping. It has been a wonderful experience and we can't wait to share it with you.

In July – ASA Books will be reading at Bessie Coleman Library Branch on Thurday, July 21st from 10am -11am. We will be reading our newest release, Don't Run From The Sun, which we are soooooo excited to debut.

...And throughout the rest of the summer, ASA Books is gearing up to participate in monthly Neighborhood Playdates on the last Sunday of every month at Moccasin Ranch Park in Woodlawn, Chicago.

We love what we do... sharing our love of reading with you!

**New Book Alert**

Don't Run From The Sun Is Almost Ready To Shine

Our summer release is ALMOST HERE. The count down is on.....

Don’t Run From The Sun is a story, in rhyme, about a young boy and girl who are afraid to play in the sun because they fear their skin color will get darker if they do. This soft, yet powerful tale teaches the importance of being proud of your skin tone; whether light or dark, never letting the power of the sun stop you from having fun.  The story lends a kind, yet strong message for kids of all backgrounds, but specifically children of color, who may get teased for being of a darker hue. It is an affirmation for kids of all colors, that being kissed by the sun is to be celebrated and not shaded.

ASA Books July Activity List

(1) Reading Under The Stars:  Take your nightly readings with the kids outdoors. Spread a blanket out in your backyard, front porch, or patio all while in the comfort of your pajamas. Grab a snack and let the little ones pick the book of their choice. It will surely bring a smile to everyone's face (and brain).

(2) Tis The Season For Berry Picking:  Strawberries may be out, but blueberries and raspberries are in. Find a local U-pick berry farm in or around your city. A day trip to the farm could be just what you and your family are missing. Don't forget to try a new flavor pie while you're there.

(3) Chalk Up Some Fun: For just 99 cents you can grab a bucket of chalk at your local dollar tree and create magic. From hopscotch, tic-tac-toe, or a mural… have the kids get creative in the driveway or sidewalk right outside your home.

(4) Ball Up A Splash:  When water balloons and a whiffle ball baseball bat meet, you are in for a cool, wet treat. Pick a hot day and have the best time of your life playing water-balloon baseball.
