KIA ORA
We are really sorry to let you know that The Sapling will not be publishing in 2021 after 30 September, though we hope to be back sometime in 2022. We have had to make this very difficult decision to help us pursue better balance in our workloads, family life, and wellbeing. However, we are hoping to take the next few months to rebuild the site, and seek to make the operation of it more sustainable.
It may be that we don’t come back exactly the way we are, but we will keep the old site running and promote pieces from our archives over the coming months as we sort ourselves out. We will also be doing a Christmas list in some medium, as it’s our favourite time of year.
Thank you so much for all your donations, for your support, the books—and for reading and spreading the word about The Sapling. It has been a joy to bring you our fabulous pieces on such a wide range of children’s literature, mainly from Aotearoa, but
also from Australia and the rest of the world. Over the past five years we have
published over 750 pieces!
We will be sending a survey out within the next month or so to seek your thoughts on what you’d like to see more of, what you’d like to see less of, and where you think we could fill a gap in children’s book coverage in NZ into the future.
It’s hard to express how much all of your support has meant to us. We will be in touch when we come back online. In the meantime, check out some of our recent pieces below.
Ngā mihi nui,
Sarah Forster, Briar Lawry, Simie Simpson, and Nida Fiazi
