Another Children's Book Done! |
Welcome, welcome to another newsletter! Some great news this week as I'm happy to report that the manuscript, illustrations, etc for the children's book I've been working on has finally been sent to the printer! I wanted to finish it by the end of last year and-what day is it now? Oh, nearly May you say? Just a four month delay, no biggie! For real, children's book illustrations are not easy, and I was making illustrations for it while working a full time job AND juggling my other projects. But, I'm happy to have finally finished that project up. I sent a PDF of the book to the author last week and after a couple rounds of edits, she has officially sent it off to her publisher (which is just a glorified printer, really). Getting this book off my plate has already felt like a weight lifted. I'm happy to have done it, but also happy to be rid of it. I think I'll be taking a break from children's book illustration for a while. Which means more comics! Speaking of-I've got a new After Death page ready for you guys this week so let's get going! |

Notes: Apologies for making you guys wait so long between this page and the last one, that's a long time to wait to finish this conversation. But-I had this children's book I was working on see-but anyway. Now that the children's book is officially done, I'm hoping to find my groove again with After Death comics and get back to delivering them on a more consistent basis. I know I've been saying this for a while now, but I've got some writing to do because what follows this page will be a story line that will take us right up to the half way point of the entire story of The After Death. It's the point at which I always considered to be Book One, until I decided to kickstart and publish them in smaller increments. But, if I was in the traditional publishing mode, the half way point I'm working towards would be the first trade paperback collecting everything into one big book up to this point. And the second half I'll start working on probably later this year or the beginning of next (depending on how fast I work in the next few months). I hope this is making sense and isn't too inside baseball for you guys. Eventually I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to collect the entire massive series into an omnibus and have the entire story in one volume. Which is the dream, of course, so we'll just see if I'm able to attain it. Oof, I went off on a bit of tangent there. Anyway, enjoy today's comic, there's definitely more to come! |

May the 4th is Star Wars Day! And, coincidentally, May the 4th is also Free Comic Book Day this year! Both land this Saturday and I'll be making an appearance at my local comic book shop Collected Comics and Games. I'll be set up between 10am and 2pm with all my comics and prints for sale. But, since it's Star Wars Day, I wanted to add a few fun prints to mark the occasion so I've been working on these simple illustrations depicting scenes and quotes from the films and TV shows. The plan is to get some prints done locally and offer them for $5 or so at my table, or include them for free with another purchase as an incentive. I just wanted to offer something else fun for the day. Though the latest iterations of Star Wars television and movies aren't my favorite things, I'm still a huge fan of the original trilogy and absolutely love the Mandalorian series. So, I really do get into Star Wars Day. I wear all my Star Wars apparel, and I've even got Star Wars themed jewelry-I go all out. It's a ton of fun and so I'm very much looking forward to the event and the entire day. Below are the first three prints I've been able to finish up. I want to offer four in total to give people a choice, but am still trying to decide which character to do next. |

What's Making Me Happy This Week |
I visited a Barnes and Nobel a couple days ago and found a pretty high quality sketchbook in their clearance section for $10. What? Did you know Moleskins go for around $25-$30 these days?! How crazy is that? So I'm always on the lookout for a good cheap sketchbook, and I found one, at Barnes and Nobel of all places! It's thick and black with the SKETCH written on it which I plan to cover up with stickers. I've not been a big sketchbook person in a while-meaning I usually use my sketchbook to work out ideas and compositions of actually art pieces. But I've been wanting to get back to using my sketchbook for experimentation, doodles, and to work out ideas that don't necessarily fit the things I sell at shows (ghosts, New Orleans, etc.). We'll see how it goes, but I'm excited about it! Rhea and I went to the movies this past week and saw a special screening of The Mummy to celebrate its 25th anniversary. It was cool seeing it on the big screen again. I remember seeing it on the big screen the FIRST time it was released if you can believe that.
