One very overdue update!

I can't believe it's (considerably) over a year since our last update - apologies!

We are, however, still here, and would be delighted to welcome you (and your group?) back to Whitchester in 2024, and beyond (we have 3 bookings for 2025 already, and one in the offing).

The reason we went quiet for so long was due to a change in terms with our mailing provider combined with a lack of time, expertise & a suitable alternative to address this.

Please read on to see what we've been up to since we were last in touch, and to find out what's upcoming ...

Summer 2023 saw the installation on the roof of solar pv panels + a handy gadget that heats the water when the sun is out. Our provider had recently acquired a drone and was able to provide us with the short clip below. An interest free loan through the Energy Saving Trust (being paid back over a five year period) was available to enable this work to be undertaken.

Early last year, Kate Hatton kindly offered her services to fulfil my desire to have these verses from Matthew 11: 28-30 painted on the wall in the chapel. The gold lettering catches different lights beautifully, and the text has moved a number of us to tears.

Having completed this task, we decided we really needed to do something about the bright orange chair coverings and Kate valiantly stepped up again ... this was quite a task and she enlisted the help of the local Men's Shed (on a quid pro quo basis) but we are delighted with the results, which really enhance the restfulness of the chapel space.

Appeal from the Board of Directors and Wardens

We are grateful to all of you who have visited Whitchester over the past few years; we hope that you enjoyed your stay and were blessed by your time here. Feedback from many guests has shown that they find Whitchester to be a place of peace, restoration and renewal.

Over the 40 yeras of Whitchester's ministry, many people have supported the work by giving regular donations. However, the number of donors has dwindled in recent years, and this, combined with increased costs across the board, is beginning to threaten the long term viability of the Centre. Income from groups and individual guests brings in about two thirds of the amount required to sustain the ministry. From time to time, we receive some grant income, but not enough to make up the shortfall.

Would you consider making a regular donation to support the ministry of Whitchester? Any amount, however small, would make a significant difference. For instance:

£5/month would cover cleaning & laundry costs for one guest for a weekend visit each month;

£20/month would cover the cost of light, heat and power for one guest for a weekend visit each month;

£50/month would cover our food costs for 4 guests for a weekend visit each month.
