Moving forward with strength

NYC events, book preview, and small business stories.

Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023

Hey there. I think it's safe to say that this past week has been rough. For me, it's been a hectic and heavy week following the news, and I'm sure it has been for you, too. I was in LA most of last week for a work shoot (read on for behind-the-scenes pics), and I hated being away from NYC when all I wanted was to be with my Jewish community. And, I'm sad about the endless cycle of antisemitism.

But, it's inspired me to get to work. Some newcomers might not know that Danielle in Doodles is a happy side hustle that stems from pain and struggle. When I started standup comedy in 2018, it turned into an outlet to process my grief — all my material was about loss. In 2020, during the pandemic, when I couldn't do live comedy and was feeling anxious, I put humor into doodles. And whatever it is I'm doing has grown a lot since my early cartoons.

I'm continuing to move forward. When I realized my Kugels and Komedians show was coming up, instead of canceling it, we pivoted it to a fundraiser, and I wrote new material. And I've been using all my time on planes to finish up the cartoons for the upcoming Hot Jewish Hanukkah book.

Read on for a preview, some featured events in NYC, and two feel-good small business stories that I produced. Thanks for reading. ❤️

If you're new here, hi! I'm Danielle, a marketer, writer, and artist doodling about her life (@danielleindoodles) and Jewish things (@jewsindoodles). This newsletter, sent most Sundays (and sometimes not on Sundays), has new cartoons and updates on what I'm working on in both worlds. I love producing this newsletter and appreciate you following!

I feel really good about this and I've gotten a lot of supportive messages, even from my Israeli ex! I hope to see you there! And if you can't attend, you can donate to United Hatzalah here.
