Acceptance

Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it.

I think about this quote a lot when it comes to any life circumstance that didn't work out the way I had planned, hoped, or expected. I believe a lot of people can relate to the feeling of being sad, frustrated, annoyed, insert any emotion that applies, when the expectation of what you wanted to happen... didn't happen.

The difficult thing to do is accept what the present moment contains. Knowing that the only moment that exists is the present moment, we can work to manage our minds to accept things for what they are. When practicing acceptance, you can work on being at peace with what your past contains and not argue with it. Fully embrace accepting what was and what is will bring you into a different perspective. The perspective that life is happening FOR you.

The other part of acceptance that is the most important, in my opinion... accepting other people's behavior. I know this is something that the majority of people have a hard time doing. What if you could always accept another adult's behavior? You don't have any control over it anyway. What if you just accepted that adults get to behave how they want to behave, that adults get to be who they want to be, adults get to do whatever it is they want to do without your input? What if you just accepted that?

I have been able to genuinely accept all the things that I have absolutely no control over and it has been the most powerful and beneficial practice in my life. I encourage you to consider doing the same. ACCEPT all of the circumstances in your life that you don't have any control over or the ability to change. Be willing to accept other people's behavior and be willing to accept your past.

When you start to embrace acceptance in your life for other people and for how life is happening for you, it will be even easier to practice accepting yourself. Accept yourself for who you are and what you have been able to accomplish.

Life is hard. Life is full of trials and tribulations, life is also full of loss and suffering. Being able to accept and acknowledge how far you have come is a beautiful thing. Accept that if there is something in your life that you really desire, it is YOU who can make it happen.

Accept being fully human and accept all of of your life experiences and watch your life expand.
