Hello all you formidable subscribers and welcome to my May newsletter. I participated quietly in Me Made May, trying to wear an item I've made every day. On a couple of days I managed an entire outfit, but I still have some way to go before having a largely me made wardrobe. With the weather as it was, the Kelly Anorak was often the item of the day. It has totally filled a gap in my wardrobe for a lightweight raincoat. |

This month I share my review of the Avid Seamstress Blouse, including why I loved the instructions so much, details on how I widened the collar, and made those self-cover buttons with a polka dot centred right in the middle. |

Last month when I shared my fitting post for this blouse, it was interesting to see how much great feedback I received on this. Many of you struggle as I do to fit patterns, and find it helpful to see my fitting journey, my trials and errors, what worked and what didn't. It's still the most challenging part of sewing for me, and often what determines how much I wear a garment. I will happily wear something where my technical sewing is amiss, but something that is ill-fitting feels uncomfortable and I reach for it far less, regardless of whether I love the style or fabric. |

I have a big sewing project running in the background that started several months ago, and has another couple of months to run. I committed to making a dress to wear to my niece's graduation ceremony at the end of July, and so want it to be something special. My idea is to base it on a traditional Chinese dress called a Qipao or Cheongsam but with a modern twist. |

My base pattern is the Ladies Qipao by Porcupine Patterns and the design continues to evolve while I make adjustments for this close-fitting garment. For those who enjoy reading about my fitting journeys, this will be a bumper one when it's done. |
