Hello everyone! August has brought about a lot of change for us at Very Rascals: Steph will be starting her MA in Acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow this month. Equal parts terrifying and exciting! Because this means going back to school, there will be some changes at Very Rascals. Charlotte is going to take over producing in London. We have a very special event planned for November (read on below!) and Charlotte will be taking charge of that. Our project for Relative Motion has been put on hold. However, you haven't gotten rid of me completely! I will still be putting together the newsletter monthly and supporting/championing production from afar. I will also be writing blogs about life in Glasgow and studying at drama school. Our blogs will be back this month after a summer break! We are both so committed to what we started with Very Rascals. We've managed to survive the pandemic, and we are working hard to bring you more productions that centre women and women's stories. We hope you bear with us as we go through these changes and we look forward to seeing you in person over the coming months (stay tuned!). Much love, Steph and Charlotte |

Scratch That: Take Two! We are so excited to be doing another Scratch Night. We will be announcing dates but expect this lovely night of new writing to be at the beginning of November. |
We are excited to announce two out of our four pieces Mints by Lucy Davidson & Monster Munch by Tamara von Werthern and Jack Hughes |
CASTING notices will go out at the end of September. We are looking for directors for our four pieces so please get in touch if you know anyone or would like to direct. |
Go see Charlotte this September! Charlotte will be appearing in Gutter Streeet's Feathers (written and directed by Leo Flanagan) at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre in London from the 21st to the 25th of September. |
The day before a national draft, in a bookshop hide two Feathers. They will soon part ways, on the run from the district's draft board, to find their sanctuary in the north. Before they both leave, they have one final visitor to their shop. When does patriotism become ignorance and when does morality become cowardice? |

HOPE FOR THE YOUNG There are 16 days left to donate to Charlotte's fundraiser! For the last month, Charlotte has been climbing 30 to 40 climbs a day. Her goals is to complete 800 climbs to raise money for Hope for the Young, a charity raising awareness and funds for young asylum seekers and refugees seeking education in the UK. |
She has this to say: "I have volunteered for Hope for the Young for the last 3 years now. It is not only a charity that helps young refugees access education, but a community. It has filled my life with so much joy and drive throughout a tough time, and I want to ensure that other volunteers and refugees can keep having these connections. I have met many young people with so much potential, and who have overcome so much. Their drive is inspiring, and Hope for the Young have found brilliant ways to build platforms for them and break down barriers." |
We are very excited and proud to support Charlotte over the next month and we would be very thankful if you would consider donating to this wonderful cause. |

July Spotlight: Lauren-Nicole Mayes Lauren and Charlotte first met many moons ago at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Lauren always held so much emotional truth in her acting - it was a joy to watch! - so when she started to write and share her pieces online, that talent shone through. A few months ago Very Rascals finally plucked up the courage to ask Lauren to share her work on this blog, and we are so glad that we did. | | |
Our monthly spotlight aims to highlight the work of an artist we admire each month. We are always eager to meet new people and accept any form of writing: poetry, spoken word, monologues - we just want to hear your wonderful voices! If you would like to submit a piece, please email veryrascalsproductions@gmail.com Or share this newsletter with someone you know! Tell them to get in touch and send us their writing. |
Over the next two months, Charlotte will take you on her journey as she produces the next Scratch Night. As we shift into new roles for the next year, we are trying to decide what to do with the different sections of our newsletter. Please let us know if there are any sections you particularly like or anything else you would like to see. |
