April, 2022 Newsletter

Happy April, Foolish or Otherwise!

I'm sharing some news about The Drowning Sea (out on 6/21/22!) this month and giving you the details of some preorder incentives I'm offering. As you probably know, preorders are really important for the authors you like to read, because they show early interest and demonstrate support. If you are planning on reading The Drowning Sea, I humbly ask you to consider preordering from your favorite bookseller or asking your library to preorder for their collection! Details below!

I'm gearing up for a lot of book-related travel this month and also (still) working hard on Maggie D'arcy #4. I'm at the point in the writing process where I have a draft of the novel and all of the scaffolding is in place. Now I'm going back through and adding character detail, further developing plot points, and making sure it all makes sense. This is my favorite part of writing and I'm trying to really enjoy settling in with Maggie, Lilly, Conor and their friends and family. They're in Dublin this time around and I'm really excited about this book, which has a missing child, a fashion model, and nefarious goings-on in and around the Grand Canal. See below for some photo inspiration.

I've been reading quite a lot too. Recent reads include Tony Birch's The White Girl, which was a beautiful and heartbreaking novel set in Australia, and Donna Leon's latest Guido Brunetti mystery, Give unto Others. This month's recipe is one of Brunetti's favorites.

Once again this month, I hope for peace and safety for all the people of the world. See you in May.

Preorder it from your favorite independent bookstore and I'll send you a bookplate AND a bookmark, with my own photographs of the book's West Cork setting on the other side. Ask your library to preorder and I'll send you a bookmark. Just email me at the contact link above with the details of where you preordered/requested (I'm going on the honor system here!) and an address and I'll send you your incentives! Thank you, readers!

I'm using these images of Portobello and the Grand Canal as inspiration while I work away at my WIP, set in one of my favorite Dublin neighborhoods. And I'm dreaming of the trips on which I took these pics . . .

I'm very happy about this nice early review for The Drowning Sea from Publishers Weekly!

“Taylor is adept at balancing police procedure with the domestic drama of Maggie’s mixed family, and her descriptions of the Irish coast and the small town where Maggie is staying will have armchair travelers itching to grab a pint and head to the local pub. Readers will be looking forward to more from this heartfelt series.” — Publishers Weekly

I love Donna Leon's Venice-set mysteries starring Commissario Guido Brunetti. The recipe this month is one of Brunetti's favorite dishes!
