Thoughts from the Chairman |

Who’s running this town? City parking garages recently found to need $11M to bring them up to current safety standards. The Thomas Wolf / Harrah’s Convention Center closes until HVAC can be replaced – over $70M. Tens of thousands of residents go without water because the Mills River pump station wasn’t properly maintained. School board meetings discuss whether they will obey the law. S49 goes into effect January 1st which gives parents the right to know and have a voice in what is taught in schools.
Where are you, dear citizen? Yes, you have a lot on your plates - jobs, kids, church committees, yard work, caretaking of a family member… and maybe a little time for a hike in the woods now and then. Nonetheless, it is time to start asking, “who's running this town?” What will happen to our taxes, our businesses, our infrastructure if we continue to let these events take their course? More of the same or worse? What happens to your car if it doesn’t get its proper maintenance? Here is my ask: If you have been successful in your career, If you have some time and a willing heart, or If you are busy but just cannot sit on the sidelines any longer…
...then please pitch in your talents and give the citizens of Buncombe County hope for a bright future. Call for a candidate exploration chat at (828) 301-4738. We will review the offices available, the commitment these offices entail, and the campaign training and support we can provide. Your city and county need your help - now! Filing for the positions of county commissioner, city council, city school board and other offices starts December 5th and closes the 15th. Explore being a candidate today - (828) 301-4738 Do you also know someone who would be a good candidate? Talk to them; have them call for a Candidate Exploration Call (828) 301-4738. Buncombe School Board is Considering How They Can Skirt Obeying the Law |
Parental Rights Bill S49 – An Act passed into law that enumerates the rights of parents to direct the upbringing, education, health care, and mental health of their minor children. Yes, you heard correctly, Buncombe County school board is considering how they can skirt obeying this law. The Left thinks that their many bodies and protests at school boards meetings can justify discarding the law. When we become a nation of men’s emotions instead of a nation of law, we become a Banana Republic. Speak out today. Please help us stand for our children! Don't let parental rights be taken away. Your help is needed to make sure that as many emails as possible are sent to the Buncombe County Board of Education at the following email address: communications@bcsemail.org The School Board needs to see these emails hit their inbox within the next week to make a difference. Use your own words, but here is a sample to help you and your friends get started: Parents are and should be the primary educators of their children and want/need to know what they are learning. The Parents Bill of Rights (S49) is needed to protect parental rights, address their concerns and access to curricula, and prohibit instruction on sexual orientation. Public schools should be focused on basic education in reading, math, writing, science and social studies. It is best when moral teaching is left at home with parents. If therapy is needed to help a child deal with social and emotional issues, it should be with a therapist of the parent's choosing. This is how it has been for decades. We recommend that you also: 1. Email again during the week leading to the board meeting on December 7. 2. Attend the December 7 School Board meeting (175 Bingham Road, at 5pm to sign up and speak), even if it is just reading out loud the email that sent. But if you just can't bring yourself to speak publicly, then at least show up at 5:30 and make your presence known by standing when asked to stand if you agree with what has been said publicly. We really need EVERYONE to show up that can. Please help us stand for our children! |

New Districts Maps - See the Difference |
The new districts (that Democrats say are gerrymandering) align closely to county borders, while the old districts (that Democrats prefer) weave in and out to cherry pick their favored voters. Now, that's the true gerrymandering! |

Community Connections Update |
Presenting a new face to our community (balanced, common sense, faith, family, and business supportive) is one of the goals of the BCGOP. Recently, we have met with: The Chamber of Commerce - to be aware of their efforts and let them know that we are interested in being involved in our county’s positive growth. Braver Angels - Part of a national organization, Asheville has a local group of Democrats and Republicans that offers workshops on bridge building, sorting through biased news, depolarizing our thinking. https:www.braverangels.org Buncombe County Sheriff - Since Sheriff Miller’s visit to our Town Hall, we continue communication and shared samples of books inappropriate for schools. Per the Sheriff’s request, we also provided a homeless program similar to the one proposed in Reno, NV. Boards and Commissions - Have you asked, “How can I make a difference?” Apply to a board or commission. Applications are being accepted now; several deadlines for applying are November 26th. Keep track of when you applied and when you received a reply. We need our voices to be heard. |

Can You Pass the US Citizenship Exam? |
Every year, the United States welcomes nearly 1 million new citizens through naturalization ceremonies, all of whom must pass the U.S. citizenship test by answering 6 out of 10 questions correctly. While 90% of legal immigrant applicants pass the exam, only 30% of U.S. adults and just 3% of public high school students in America can pass it! |

News from Congressman Chuck Edwards' Office |
In addition, in response to questions regarding not voting to censure Tlaib, Congressman Edward's states: "As much as I detest and am disgusted by Rep.Tlaib’s statements and find her conduct to be unworthy of a seat in The People’s House, there are two reasons I voted against her censure: It wrongfully creates a new definition for insurrection, which was already twisted after the Jan. 6, 2021 events at the Capitol, and which could be used against those who protested that day. It goes against the First Amendment right to freedom of speech, which is guaranteed by the Constitution for all Americans – those on the right and on the left. If we go down this road with Tlaib now, the next time, it could be Republicans’ free speech rights that are violated. I wholeheartedly condemn her and others’ racist and anti-Semitic rhetoric. While it would have been politically expedient to censure her, our First Amendment does not allow us to prevent speech with which we disagree. I made the decision to stand with our First Amendment.” |
