kuq̓ukupku - "Ripening of strawberries" (June)

(click or tap word for pronunciation)

I love how "Ripening of Strawberries" describes the month of June in the Ktunaxa language. We had some amazingly flavourful BC strawberries last week at the opening reception of "All in Oils" by Kimberley-raised, Calgary-based artist Ray Swirsky.

Here's a reminder regarding the upcoming concert with "Scalawag" and Madelyn Read on Wednesday, June 14th at 7 pm THAT YOU ARE INVITED TO. This will be a fun evening out with some great indie/alternative folk music.

The gallery is ready for summer and we've extended our opening hours for the months of June, July, and August. You can now visit every day of the week. Yay! The door will be open Sunday through Wednesday from noon to 4 pm, and Thursday through Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm. We'll stay open until 7 pm on Farmer's Market Thursdays.

If you happen to visit us on Monday or Tuesday, you will likely meet the two new(-ish) members of our team who I will be introducing to you in this newsletter. I worked hard on the well-written words below, so be sure to check it out. Okay, I'll admit, I asked ChatGPT for help, because these lovely ladies deserve a grand introduction!

We are looking forward to seeing you at the gallery!

LIVE PAINTING WITH MICHELE DOUCETTE

We are excited to present a series of live painting demonstrations by the talented, Calgary-based, acrylic artist Michele Doucette.

Michele brings her vision to life through highly textured paintings, each a labour of love, requiring many tiny brushstrokes and lots of patience. Her creativity is a testament to her passion for wildlife and mountain scenes, applied onto the canvas with every little brushstroke. Michele’s paintings have a unique appeal with their intricate textures and the meticulous attention to detail that goes into their creation.

During these live demonstrations on Thursday, July 20th; Saturday, July 22nd; Thursday, July 27th; and Saturday, July 29th, Michele will generously share her artistic process with us. As an added treat, she may also provide a glimpse of her first solo art exhibition, "Soulful Wonders of the Wild," set to take place in the summer of 2024. This exclusive opportunity allows a glimpse of the heartfelt creations that we’ll be showcasing next year.

Get ready to witness the creativity, technique, and sheer dedication that Michele Doucette pours into her work, and make sure to catch this exceptional opportunity to witness the magic of Michele's live painting demonstrations by joining us on this artistic journey, where passion meets canvas and the beauty of nature slowly unfolds.
