JUNE 2022                                                             VOL. 2 -- ISSUE NO. 6

SATURDAY, JUNE 4

10AM - 1PM

We are thrilled to be participating in the annual "agrihood" Farm Hop event with Common Roots, The Mill Market & Deli, Fisher Brothers Farm and Bread & Butter Farm this Saturday. Farm Hop allows Vermont farm lovers to stop by a handful of participating farms and see what great local goods can be found just around the corner.

At any of the participating farms, you'll grab a passport and get stamps at each farm that you visit. If you collect them all, you'll be entered to win a $25 gift card from each farm—that's $125 of farm-fresh goods.

Here at Killeen Crossroads Farm, we'll be stocked with first-of-the-season greens, fresh Cornish hens, eggs, Chinese Pineapple Buns and treats:

🍵 elixirs from Alkame Co.

🍪 cookies & snack cakes from Bluehouse Bake Shop

🎨 original artwork from Caroline Weaver Creative

🧼 custom soap from The Dirty Heifer Soap Co.

🌮 organic taco seasonings from Muchacho Taco

🧁 macarons from Small Oven Pastries

You can stop by to browse or you can pre-order items for pick-up during Farm Hop.

Time is running out! Our CSA season officially kicks off next week (June 9), so make sure you've purchased your shares and add-ons.

We're offering five sizes (Individual, Mini, Small, Medium, Large), and there is still availability for each size.

If you've already purchased your share, please make sure that you've completed the Member Info form in your email.

Starting this week, we will have FRESH Cornish hens in stock in our Farm Store.

More tender than larger chickens, each approximately 1 1/2-lb. pastured Cornish hen yields about 9 oz. of meat—perfect for serving two or for one generous portion.

Freshly packaged birds will be available Saturday, June 4, and again Thursday, July 14 until Saturday, July 16. Or select "Other" and pick up a frozen bird anytime during regular business hours.

Cornish hens are $9.99/lb. You can reserve one (or four) now, then pay based on weight when you pick up.

These past few weeks have been nonstop out in the fields to get everything ready for our first harvest.

Most recently, Kara and Zoe planted almost a dozen different varieties of peppers, resulting in over 350 individual plants. There will be a lot of yummy peppers to choose from in the coming weeks.

Grilled Baby Bok Choy with Creamy Peanut Dressing

As we kick off our CSA Summer season, we're giving you a sneak peek of our first recipe using some fresh ingredients from our farm.

Baby bok choy is more tender, mild and compact than the grown-up version, which makes it perfect for grilling and for catching flavorful sauces between the stalks and leaves. Parcooking the bok choy prevents the leaves from burning before the stalks are tender. If you don’t want to fire up your grill, a grill pan or hot cast-iron skillet will do the trick.
