Newsletter XIII

♥ A Joyful Spirited Journey ♥

Dear friends... Another year, another year ahead full of adventures! And my projects seem to change as seasons do. Or possibly even as soon as sun, wind, and rain alternate here in Cape Town. Since my last newsletter back in August, I did not only change my work name [I know… again] from Soul Expression to Anouk Anansi, I’ve also continued gypsying around quite a bit. This time not only within the Western Cape of South Africa, I also headed back to The Netherlands. I hadn’t been back to my home country for two years which is, even for me, a bloody long time! I biked around on my Golden Yamaha, also called Cheeta and caught up with family, friends and my dance community at Odessa. Besides working as a cook (yup, true story!) I did some photography work for the conscious space REMO in Amsterdam, and my always enthusiastic neighbor and astrologer Suzan.

Besides this, I was scouting around for a little drone and an upgrade for my camera, so I could take my video and photography to the next level. And since I got back in South Africa, I may certainly not complain about the possibilities to test it (luckily, I didn’t also fly my second drone into the tree). Pretty much as soon as I got back in South Africa, which was the beginning of November, my partner Tristan and I joined Seed To Fire with their community trip within the Western Cape. I did their camera work, more about this you'll find down below in this newsletter. In December I continued my journeys towards Solstice Festival, a beautiful conscious gathering in Sedgefield, where I did their video & photography footage. So, lots of camera projects over the last while, but not only!

Before, after and in between this all, I wrote new songs and practiced on my new keyboard, finally purchased after dreaming about getting one (and learning to play it) for many years. Also, recording our Spirit Songs in a studio was a big wish of mine, which we will do upcoming February. So, the year ain't start that bad at all!

I truly hope you also have a splendid beginning of the new year. Please continue enjoying it to the best of your being, thanks once again for reading my newsletter and I’ll leave you to the rest of your Sunday now. Ah, and don't forget...

Tanith, the founder of Seed 2 Fire, invited us to join on a journey of music-making, seed sharing and fire cooking (which she is a champion in). We joined the team of volunteers and met such special people in Kwarri Kamp, Barrydale. Feeling so inspired by all this beautiful footage, I didn’t create one, neither two, but three videos from our trip. Have a look and find out more about Seed 2 Fire, and get a feeling of the Kwarri Kamp in Barrydale through these Seed 2 Fire Videos & Seed 2 Fire Photography Series

Back in Holland, it is not really a thing to give each other nicknames. In South Africa, just like back in Aus, it is. Natasha is now Tash, Leonora gets Lulu and Anouk becomes… Anansi! 😉 This nickname goes a few years back in time, not long after I had arrived in South Africa, when I was wandering through the Tankwa Dessert.

Natural light and authenticity is where I focus on most during my shoots. This shoot was with Suzan, my dad’s always smiling neighbor. She has a great passion for astrology and could use photographs for her business Het Sterrenspel (Game Of Stars). I loved capturing her happy spirit, the colors of her and her walls and all the little crystals and magical pieces on her table. If you like to see more of Suzan's Magical Photographs of this series, have a look here!
