What We’re Up To

The last workshop in Mt Vernon was a great experience.  We had around 18 people show up with a good number of machines, and very new members, very experienced members, young and well seasoned individuals all mixing and sharing.

On Saturday February 22nd there will be a workshop at the Aegis Assisted Living facility on Queen Anne Hill  from 10AM to 3PM.  Bring your machines, questions and helpful advice plus something to add to the potluck lunch More details soon, but mark your calendars now.

Monday, February 24th at Greenwood Senior Center

525 N. 85th St, Seattle, WA

From 7PM to 9PM.  This will be a discussion forum, not a workshop.

The next meeting in Mt. Vernon:

1401 Cleveland Ave, Mt. Vernon, WA, from 10AM to 3PM.

This will also be a workshop, so bring your machines, designs, and questions.

Suggested discussion topic:  Polishing different materials.  Suggestion we go over specific material individually: Quartzes, CZ, garnet, topaz, tourmaline, and others that may warrant specific discussions.

CHECK OUT THE NEW WEBSITE!!!

Please send your feedback and any high-quality images to include.  It is still a work in progress so help us work out the glitches and make it better for everyone.

Check it out!

Note from the President

The NPSFG website has been refreshed using material that was gathered from the prior incarnation.  Please (PLEASE!!) take a look at it, think about it, and then make suggestions of how it can be further refined or otherwise improved.  Note that there will soon be a link from this site to Instagram where we will have a gallery of pictures of the stones cut by guild members.

I am currently in Hillsboro OR taking a class from the Columbia-Willamette Faceting Guild on how to repair damaged gemstones.  So if a gemstone gets chipped or badly scratched, how does one go about setting it right?  It’s instructed by Jerry Bartlemay with the assistance Diane Eames, and so far they seem to know what they are talking about.  I’ll have more to say after class completes.

Challenge Stone

Cut an Oval, preferably out of CZ.  There are hundreds of designs FacetDiagrams.org and any that are labeled “open” you can get to directly.  If they are not listed as “open” but indicate they were published in the Lapidary Journal, contact me, Michael, directly and let me know the name of the cut plus the month and year of the Lapidary Journal issue, and I should be able to get it to you.

Upcoming Events

Upcoming shows and demonstrations to which we committed (I think) so far:

February 29, March 1st is the North Seattle Lapidary and Mineral Club Annual Show at the Crown Hill Center at 9250 14th Ave NW, Seattle, WA  Jim Grace will be demonstrating and Michael Froebe will assist.

March 7, 8 is the E. KingCo Rock and Gem Show in Issaquah.  Michael Froebe will be demonstrating, and assistance will be gladly accepted.

May 2, 3 is the Everett Rock and Gem Show at Everett CC.  I’m assuming Dorinda will be demonstrating.

October 17, 18 is the Bellevue Rock and Gem Show near the sunny shores of Lake Sammamish.

Please note that each of the above will have the NPSFG display case in attendance.  It takes a fair amount of effort to set up and take apart the display case, so extra hands are always welcome!

Other shows coming up which may be open if you wish to visit or possibly demonstrate:
