Research Insights: Empowering Women's Health

Osteoporosis is the thinning of bones that occurs at an accelerated rate in menopause due to the loss of estrogen and puts women at risk for breaking a bone or bones. Some women are symptomatic when they break a bone due to osteoporosis, but other women can be symptom free and unaware that they have developed osteoporosis. Screening with a bone density should be done on all women starting at age 65; but women at an increased risk can be screened younger. These risks can include: a long history or oral steroid use, a history of an eating disorder, a parent with osteoporosis or a parent who has broken a hip, history of excessive alcohol or tobacco use, or any recent broken bones. Talk to your provider about your individual risk factors and when screening is most appropriate for you.

Favorite Place: Patterson's Fruit Farm

Jean's pick: I love Patterson's Fruit Farm on 11414 Cave's Road in Chesterland. I have been visiting this place since my boys were little and I still love it now. They are the place to be to get the best apples and you can try to resist the apple fritters in their amazing bakery, but it is futile.

"A few our favorite things:" Lume

Anna's pick: My newest find is pre-deodorant you can use anywhere on your body!! Real test for me was typical times when I get BV type symptoms, (think times your genital pH changes i.e. intimacy) cleansed next morning as usual, used the Lume cream on just vulva and voila-odor gone and didn’t come back later in day or next day! Shortest course of BV type symptoms I ever had! Thank you Lume!
