The calendar says Spring, but as I write this, the temperature is struggling to make it to 50 degrees. I’m hoping this cold snap means that permanent warmer weather is near. We all need to get to work on our spring plantings and repairing the damage done during the deep freeze we had in December. Please monitor your shrubs for signs of permanent damage. Many times, plants that look like they are dead from freezing will begin to show signs of new life in March and April. |

The City of Hoover recently passed an ordinance (No. 23-2592) that prohibits short-term rentals of less than 30 days in single family zoned districts. There is an exception allowing 7-day rentals during City designated special events. Southlake has proposed an amendment to our covenants, which is described below. The proposed Southlake covenant amendment would supersede the Hoover ordinance and allow Southlake property owners more flexibility for long term rentals, while preventing 7-day rentals in our neighborhood. |

Southlake property owners are being asked to vote YES to an amendment to the covenants that would restrict home rentals to an initial term of 6 months or more and grant the Board of Directors the authority to impose fines for persistent violators, in order to maintain the single-family residential character of the neighborhood. A YES vote is required by 55% of all Southlake owners for the amendment to pass. |

Soon you will be receiving the ballots for the election of new board members and approval of an amendment to our protective covenants. One ballot will be for the election of 2 new members of our Board of Directors. We are pleased that this year you will have multiple candidates to choose from. The ballot mailing will include brief biographical information about each candidate. Please choose wisely because our Board of Directors routinely makes important decisions on behalf of all our property owners. |
