EVENTS/TALKS

Bit quiet at the moment...

PRACTIONER

Tim Page is part legend part myth. Here is a deep dive. His story is one of the great reads of photography. lets start with his work, this is his a bit neglected website.

TIM PAGE / Photographer

Here is an overview by Time magazine.

Icons of Photography: Tim Page

Tim Page was born on May 25, 1944, in Tunbridge Wells and grew up in Orpington. At seventeen, he ran away from that archetypal Home County exurbia - to find himself, probably. He found a calling, anyway - in Laos where he acquired a camera and stumbled on a coup.

Now an interview

Tim Page's Vietnam War

Tim Page (right) with Sean Flynn, shot by Mike Herr, author of Dispatches, at the mouth of the Perfume River. Tim Page is a photojournalist of the old school. He arrived in Saigon, South Vietnam, in 1965, when he was 20 years old.

An article about his friendship with Michael Herr one of the writers of Full Metal Jacket and writer of the voiceover in Apocalypse Now because he was one of the most talented and interesting reporters out of that war.

Words that will forever pursue us: Tim Page on Michael Herr, rock'n'roll voice of the Vietnam War

It's a rare quality of friendship when you acquire an instant nickname for a new mate. We were instantly "Nub" and "Plum". Me Nub, for my mangled left index finger; Plum for Mike and his always slightly reddened face.

Want to own an original, can do here, and for a good cause! (will also have this link under collecting.

Tim Page - Limited Edition Prints

This is a one time only print run to support aussie veterans suffering from mental illnesses like PTSD, anxiety and depression. Each print is a high quality A1 or A2 unique print, signed and with a written description of the image by the original photographer Tim Page.

@the.irving.penn.foundation - There was Penn and Avedon from the 1940s to 80s in NY fashion. They pushed each other to new heights. They defined fashion in the C20th.

The Irving Penn Foundation

As a young man, after graduating from the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art in 1938, Irving Penn harbored dreams of becoming a painter. In 1941-42, he spent a year in Mexico painting, but he found his results to be disappointing and destroyed all but a small group of drawings.
