April 2019

Hello everyone!

Brrr! It's been a chilly start to May here in the UK! I personally prefer colder weather to hot, but I would like it to be warm enough to shed my coat when I go outside!

Anyhoo, I digress...

Shall we get onto the news?

Oh very well! If you insist!

Terry from Retro Photo Studio informed me that some of our more "alternative" photos from our recent shoot were selected for Book 1 of April's edition of Bombshell Magazine! After shooting some headshots and the lovely vintage portraits I posted last newsletter, we grabbed some of the costume pieces I'd brought and some props Terry had... I spotted a top hat, and he grabbed a long piece of white netting... and this is what happened ;) Click the link above to get a copy of the Bombshell magazine, or you can see some more of the photos that didn't make the cut by visiting my Instagram.

I ventured out to Hampstead on another chilly, rainy day to do a shoot with Cori Chella Photography. We decided to go artsy attempt an "Interview With the Vampire" theme. I grabbed my long blonde wig and my purple taffeta dress, and ba-da-boom! Here's Blonde, Moody Rachel ;) I've been posting more of these photos on Facebook and Instagram, so have a look and stay tuned for more!

I did another shoot earlier in April with Andrew Clifton-Brown Photography. We've collaborated twice before, but he asked me back to try to really nail some new lighting techniques and to introduce me to makeup artist Victoria Garcia. It was a great success! We got a bunch of really lovely photos, and I was happy to have the opportunity to get some pictures of some of my new and lesser-used wardrobe pieces. We hope to work together on a Disney Villain-inspired piece sometime soon, so fingers crossed!

I've been doing more busking on the Guildford High Street, which I found I enjoy quite a lot! It has also brought several new opportunities/gigs my way. One unexpected bonus came a few weekends ago when Erick and I attended the Guildford Fringe's Swing Jam, which was a dance at a local pub featuring Katie's Crooked Swing Band. One of the staff recognised me from singing on the high street, and she got me introduced to the band which led to me joining them for a couple of songs! What fun!

April also brought a couple of corporate jobs my way, including a voiceover with Soho Voices and a few days of Medical Roleplay for King's College. :)

I've updated my Online Sketchbook with sketches and stories from the past month. Click the button below to see April's pages. Don't forget to comment and tell me which sketches are your favourites! Feel free to explore more and let me know if there are any glitches to be fixed/improvements to be made. I look forward to your input!

Erick and I took another little break this month and travelled to Paris! We spent two days at the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay before attending "Dapper Day" at Disneyland Paris! Disneyland has always been one of my favourite places in the world, and it was such fun to share it with other vintage enthusiasts. To learn more about Dapper Day and their events around the world, visit their facebook page by clicking here. I'll post more photos of the trip on my Instagram/Facebook soon!

Whew, I think that's it for now!

Thanks again for all of your love and support! It's wonderful to hear how many of you read and look forward to my newsletters each month. It really means a lot, so THANK YOU!

Have a very merry month of May!

Love

Rachel
