Greetings From Your President Spring is here and our beautiful valley shows it! There are three events coming up that I hope you can put on your calendars. On May 14, we will have an outstanding program that I know you won't want to miss. It is about school safety, what is going on and what can be done about it. |

You may remember the horror at the Moses Lake Frontier Junior High shooting back in 1996 that left a teacher and two students dead. Jon Lane is the teacher who courageously stepped into the classroom, confronted the shooter and is credited with saving many lives. He will be with us to present a video and a very powerful message. We encourage you to invite other retirees or school employees to join you. Maybe offer them a ride? On June 4-6 the WSSRA will hold the State Convention here in Wenatchee at the Convention Center. We encourage any member to attend. We have room for a few more delegates so consider joining us. There are always good speakers, entertainment and updates on what is happening around the state and especially with the legislature and plans for the future. |

On Monday, June 11, we will have our annual potluck and final gathering of the year at the Canyon Creek Clubhouse in East Wenatchee at Baker Street and 19th Street. We hope to see you very soon! WSSRA Convention in Wenatchee!!! Join us June 4-6 at the Wenatchee Convention Center |

On June 4-6 the WSSRA State Convention will be held at the Wenatchee Convention Center. All members are welcome to attend any of the scheduled events. Check your state journal for the convention outline. Please contact Bev Jagla (884-1279) by May 15th if you would like to be a delegate. On the closing evening of the Convention, local singer, educator, and CDSRA member, Mike Bills will be performing easy listening music. You are invited! June 5th at 8:30pm at the Convention Center. |

The WSSR-PAC, the political action committee, is busy raising funds for the 2018 elections. We had support from both sides of the aisle during the 2017-18 session and WSSRA supports from both parties will need our help. Remember, we support candidates: - From both political parties
- From all areas of the state
- We believe in protecting, maintaining, and improving our earned pension benefits.
Our WSSRA legislative committee will continue working to increase benefits at the next session and need to have legislators in Olympia who support Plan 1 benefit improvement, will protect and maintain benefits for Plan 2 and 3, and will keep retirement issues at the front of legislative action. Are you a member? If you wrote a check at our December 2017 meeting, you are currently a member. Every contribution counts.
