Protest Letters Needed by February 20th!
The Bureau of Land Management plans to auction off more of Wayne National Forest to gas and oil companies for fracking on March 22nd.
Between now and February 20th you can make your voice heard by submitting an official protest letter by mail or fax. While the BLM not change its plans, the agency is required to read and respond to every letter, and the letters become public record. Our letters show that we are not being represented; that fracking the Wayne is not what the people want!
You can find a template to copy and paste from here. We encourage you to use it and to add your own list of reasons you believe this process is wrong and should not be allowed to go forward. Some examples of reasons are the failure to comply with NEPA, and failure to consider the impacts of global climate change that result from natural gas development and deforestation.
You can see some examples of letters submitted during a previous protest period here.
All letters must be either postmarked and mailed to:
BLM Eastern States Office, Attention: State Director,
20 M Street SE, Suite 950,
Washington, D.C. 20003
OR
Faxed to 202-912-7798
by February 20th.
If you can host a letter writing party, we are happy to help you make it happen! Email us for details!
