Urgent Action Alert - Plan 1 COLA Legislation

January 27, 2018

This is an urgent legislative action alert. You need to act if a Plan 1 COLA is important to you.

Four Plan 1 COLA bills have received public hearings and are sitting in committee waiting for a vote. House Bill 2511 is in the House Appropriations Committee. Senate Bills 6290, 6305, and 6340 are in the Senate Ways and Means Committee. The deadline to move these bills out of committee is February 6th.

If your legislators are on House Appropriations or Senate Ways & Means Committees, please ask them to vote Plan 1 COLA legislation out of committee. If they are not on those committees, ask them to talk with their colleagues who are. A draft message could read:

Senator / Representative ______ , Please vote a Plan 1 COLA bill out of committee. This is extremely important to me and my former colleagues. It has been nearly eight years since the state has granted a COLA for Plan 1 retirees. Every other retirement plan receives a COLA EVERY YEAR! This is unfair and inequitable, especially since these plans are predominately women and widows, while the plans that receive COLAs are dominated by men. It's not about money, it's about priorities. When will retirees who devoted their careers to the children of the this state be a priority?

The time to act is now. If a COLA is important to you, this is your chance. The legislature will not be in session again until 2019. Contact information for House Appropriations Committee Members and Senate Ways and Means Committee Members is listed below.
