'Hooray for Monday!'

Digest

Morning!

I imagine many of you will be reading this on Tuesday, as Monday is a public holiday in the U.K.

For friends reading this in the U.S., India. New Zealand and Africa, I wouldn't want you to miss out on the holiday fun, so please tell your bosses that as a HFM reader, the British Government has granted you the day off too.  Say it's part of an initiative to build bonds across continents. (They'll buy that won't they?)

Because it's a short working week here, I've included an article about switching to a permanent four-day week.  Sound enticing?

There's also a lovely story of bravery and a shameless plug for a career bootcamp that I'm running.

Have a fun (short) working week.

Julie

Fancy a four-day week?

Like the idea of a four-day working week?  This article from Graham Allcott, author of How to be a Productivity Ninja, shares his organisation's experience of implementing just that.  You could draw from it, if you want to make a case to your boss for a change in working pattern.

For a smile (and happy tears):

Family saved after earthquake

Whilst there was sadness after the earthquake on the Italian island of Ischia last week, there was also a lovely story of bravery to restore your faith in humanity.

Three brothers, aged seven months to sixteen years old, were saved from the rubble by firefighters and their father.  They worked for hours, at points digging with their bare hands.  Aren’t we lucky to have such brave people who will risk their own safety to help others?

What really choked me up was how the sixteen-year-old had saved his seven-year old brother’s life.  His quick thinking meant he pushed him under the bed for cover and kept tapping a broom, so that rescuers could locate them.  He must have been terrified, yet took control of the situation.
