September 2017 News

Scribbles by Shirley

Our family enjoyed our week-long memory making holiday at Black Donald Oasis, a fun-filled busy week with all the Grandkids. The seven Grandboys devoured mountains of food while the two Grandgirls looked on in awe.

Team Awesome enjoyed holidays to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec City, Ferguson Lake, Newfoundland and Algonquin Park. We love to share holiday stories with each other at the lunch table when we return. While on holidays, one Team Awesome member stopped in at Acadian Maple Products near Peggy's Cove, NS, where Fulton's Maple Luscious Spa Products are sold; they were happy to put a face to our name and we were happy to browse this lovely shop that we ship our product to.

September is an exciting time for students and parents as school gets underway for another year. Fulton's seasonal staff team members Makayla Giles and Rikki Rintoul are both heading off for post-secondary studies away from home and we wish them the very best of luck in their endeavours.

Our staff gets asked often what we do during the off season! Here is a partial list:

- Firstly, catch up with each others' summer stories, enjoy the changing colours on the farm and take advantage of those 'perfect' days where we can escape for kayaking or a walk in the woods.

- Secondly, organize a staff planning meeting and potluck lunch (the food is always the best part) as we approach Fall Splendor and the Winter Magic & Maple Harvest Season.

- Thirdly, plan at least one day-away adventure for everyone.

- Finally, we actually do get some work done! We pack orders every week, chat with our customers, open the Maple Gift Shoppe on Tuesdays and Thursdays, keep up with wholesale orders and requests for product for wedding favours, plan group visits, plus spif up our backyard both outside and inside. We are always developing, tasting and testing new products, both edible and with our Maple Luscious Spa Line; we will keep you apprised of new developments!

We are so delighted to partner this year for the first time with other local businesses during Fall Splendor (Sept 30-Oct 4) to offer some great workshops- see below for more information. We look forward to seeing everyone for pancakes, trail walks, photography and participation in the workshops!

Sweet maple wishes to you,

MacLaren Orchards

MacLaren Apple Orchard is an "Ottawa Valley Tradition". Generations of families have enjoyed MacLaren's Apples and Cider. Their extensive orchard produces some of the finest apples in the Ottawa Valley including MacIntosh, Lobo and Empire. Their delicious apple cider is made on-site and is available year-round at the farm; why not purchase some to make Fulton's Recipe of the Month, Hot Apple Cider (see below). Open 8am-6pm, seven days per week.

Fulton Deugo Family Opens 2017 Pakenham Fair

The Fulton Deugo family were privileged and proud to be chosen to open the 2017 edition of the Pakenham Fair. Scott Deugo did the honours and welcomed the community to the Fair on behalf of the family. You can find Scott's speech here.

Day Tripping

This month we suggest a visit to Equator Coffee Roasters in Almonte. This local business, as well as being THE PLACE TO BE for a great cuppa java or tea, has lots of neat things going on. They are open 7 days per week. Equator roasts a special Maple Coffee for Fulton's and it's a best seller in our shop! They make a delicious Maple Latté (using Fulton's Organic Maple Syrup) in their coffee shop and we highly recommend it.

They have just launched the Bripe Brew Pipe. What is it, you ask? "The Bripe Coffee Brew Pipe is a small, light, copper and silver pipe that makes great coffee in the great outdoors. No electricity, gas canister, kettle or stove. A Bripe only requires ground coffee, and water, and includes a portable butane-powered quad jet torch to fire your brew." How cool is that?

Enthusiastic Equator Coffee employees, customers, and friends are involved in an upcoming 10-day trip to Nicaragua to construct Equator’s third classroom with SchoolBOX. Equator has a strong link to our local community as well, supporting many events and activities.

Equator has announced a new cupping lab and are expanding their Almonte location. We can't wait to see what the expansion brings. We are proud to partner with Equator Coffee Roasters.
