Making one of these lovely Christmas ornaments as shown here. It does not take much skill on the woodturning lathe, although mastering one of the most dreaded woodturning tools, the “skew,” helps to make these efficiently and in a short time.

Here is a publication from AAW on how to make these

Cindy Drozda on October 11, 2024, had an interactive remote class on

Ornaments with Finials Video

I attended at a cost of $20 and what a bargain it was.

The actual class/demonstration lasted just over 4 hours, and I was able to ask questions and learn so much. I can watch it again for the next six months.

You can now sign up and get 6 months to view the recording (edited version), plus plans, notes, and links. - $20.

It will be a well spent $20.

More on Oktoberfest

By Jeff Bran

To MSWG members

We are less than one week away from our annual Octoberfest and as your event planner it is shaping up nicely.  We have some of your favorite members preparing unique demonstrations for your pleasure and these will be presented in a rotation manner.  Many of you have signed up for the chili cook off contest (11) and I have selected a slate of judges who will do you proud.  We have prizes!  We have guests coming from other clubs as well and the long-range weather guesser saying sunny and warm.  What more could you ask for?

Notes:

  1. Bring your own comfortable chair or chair pad. Provided will be hard metal chairs for your use.

  2. Arrive at Joel Benson’s 5050 Hwy 194 Rossville, Tn between 8 and 8:30 am for our traditional coffee and donuts (something special).

  3. Our meeting will begin at 9:00 with Chairman announcements and particulars about the Fest.

  4. Right now, I am planning two demonstrations at once in the morning with a short break and then two more demos before lunch.

  5. There will also be an all-day burning demo with Larry Sefton.  This should be fun!

  6. We will have a tool swap table and maybe a wood donation section.

  7. Chili participants should bring their entry in an electric crock pot so we can keep it warm.  If you don’t have a crock pot and something to keep it hot/warm, then it just may be CHILI.

Hope to see you all there!

52nd Pink Palace Craft Fair - 2024

Now that we have had a chance to rest and recuperate from our annual Pink Palace Craft Fair event, it is time for me to offer thanks.

No, not for Turkey Day (although it will be here to soon) but for those members who helped me staff actual demonstration of our woodturning craft through the "Tops for Children" portion of the project.

Through this working display, we fully support a major portion of the Guild's Mission Statement:
"Our mission is to provide information, education, a meeting place and an effective organization for all who are interested in turning wood."

A special Thank you to these members for making my work to organize and administer this program so much easier.

Lastly, if you did not catch the promotional video by our local tv station, ABC24, follow this link.
