Welcome to our April newsletter, where we're excited to share the latest highlights from Documentation Studio Türkiye! From our impactful presentation in Boston advocating for visible learning to an insightful interview with Cultivating Curiosity in Learning, we've been at the forefront of innovative educational practices. With visits from an esteemed institution, Bilkent IDV School and TED University interns, as well as welcoming curious young minds from BLIS Pre-Kindergarten, the studio has been holding on-going learning experiences for the community of education. Documentation Studio Inquiry Group also continues to explore the essence of pedagogical documentation, while our upcoming End of Year Exhibition in June promises to celebrate the diverse voices of children, educators, and school leaders in Türkiye and all around the World.

"The Importance of Making Learning Visible"

 

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent presentation, held in Boston, United States, where we proudly represented Documentation Studio Türkiye. The event took place on April 23rd, coinciding with the celebration of Children's Day in Türkiye, offering us a unique opportunity to celebrate children while advocating for their future education. The Boston Reggio Inspired Network workshop focused on the crucial advocacy efforts in early childhood education, amplifying the voices of teachers and highlighting the significance of publicly showcasing documentation of children and educators' learning journeys.

As part of our advocacy efforts, we extended our message to the Governor, emphasizing the imperative of robust support for early childhood education. Throughout the workshop, the Documentation Studio Consortium led insightful discussions on the importance of making learning visible in public spaces, fostering understanding, and advocacy.

Documentation Studio Interview with Cultivating Curiosity in Learning 

Documentation Studio Türkiye had the pleasure of interviewing Lauren Davis and Chevon Lopez from Cultivating Curiosity in Learning, inspiring educators whose theories and musings have captivated us. During our interview, they shared their explorations, perspectives, curiosities, and innovative methodologies in learning. From the pedagogy of listening to creating meaning through play and objects, they bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to education. Both educators, deeply influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach, emphasized shared learning, student involvement in documentation, and engagement with parents and the community. Bilkent IDV School And Intern Teachers from TED University Visit of

Documentation Studio Türkiye

The recent visit of Bilkent IDV Schools and Intern Teachers from TED University to Documentation Studio Türkiye was a profound exchange of insights and dialogue. Led by Başak Gökçek, Early Childhood Educator-Librarian, and Nursel Uyar Dalkılıç, Deputy Director of Early Childhood Department, the visitors were shared valuable understanding of the impact of pedagogical documentation on learning and teaching in the classroom. Through engaging discussions, Documentation Studio Türkiye highlighted how pedagogical documentation shapes teachers' perceptions of children, teachers, and parents. The visit served as a collaborative platform to explore the transformative role of documentation in education.

BLIS Pre-Kindergarten Children`s Visit of Documentation Studio

Documentation Studio Türkiye were delighted to welcome BLIS pre-kindergarten children for a captivating exploration of learning and creativity. During their visit, the children were mesmerised as they observed photos of children and their teachers, sparking moments of recognition and connection. They eagerly engaged with various loose parts, igniting their imaginations and fostering hands-on exploration. Additionally, they had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with our team, sharing their thoughts and ideas about their learning experiences. It was a joyous occasion filled with curiosity and discovery, reminding us of the profound impact documentation and reflection have on young learners.

Documentation Studio Inquiry Group

Documentation Studio Türkiye is excited to spotlight the dedicated members of the Documentation Studio Inquiry Group, who gather regularly to enrich their learning experiences as educators and engage in reflective dialogue on documentation practices. Led by the visionary founder of all the Documentation Studios, Dr. Stephanie Cox Suarez and Documentation Studio Türkiye Founders, this dynamic group comprises educators and a school leader from BLIS, spanning from pre-kindergarten to high school, as well as educators from Bilkent Erzurum Schools.

Together, we collaborate on documenting and reflecting on our teaching journeys, sharing insights, and supporting each other's professional growth. Currently, the group is hard at work preparing for an upcoming exhibition in June, where their meticulous documentation will be showcased to the public. Exploring Documentation Excellence: End of Year Mini Exhibition

100 Languages of Children

The 100 Languages Children End of Year Mini Exhibition provides a comprehensive view of children`s learning journey. Through children images, documentation of learning, and examples of both individual and group work, the exhibition showcases the diverse ways our children engage with education. The exhibition celebrates the languages of the children and highlights each student's learner profile, demonstrating their unique strengths and interests. Parents and community of educators are invited to participate in demonstrations of skills and learning processes, fostering a culture of collaboration and celebration. By making learning and thinking visible, we honor the achievements of our young learners and emphasize the importance of their continuous growth.
