As school holidays finish up and term 4 commences, we are bringing back our usual programs such as junior basketball, badminton, tae kwon do, and arts and crafts. Basketball has been proven to be extremely successful this year, and it has been great to see the facility buzzing each Monday and Thursday. We are continuously applying for grants to enable the purchase of new basketball hoops. This term we have 4 teams playing on a Monday afternoon, and basketball skills and games with Ivano on a Thursday afternoon. Arts and Crafts with Heidi has begun again for term 4, and she is seeing around 8 participants each week! After a successful school holiday arts and crafts program, Heidi is looking forward to seeing what the participants create this term! So far, they have been working on creating paper pizzas, cutting their 'toppings' out and gluing them onto a paper plate, as well as experimenting with clay! Tae Kwon Do has had 10 participants consistently, and participants have been working on their stances and how to kick, guided by instructor Bill. The participants will learn about basic self-defense in this class, and there is no need for any prior knowledge, everyone is welcome! The participants regularly use punching bags and kicking bags throughout the class to practice on. Emma's Seniors class is always full of fun - each and every one of the participants always walks in with a smile and they make sure to greet all PCYC staff every week. This class focuses on low mobility exercises, as well as hand-eye coordination and balance skills. It is always a great start to our week! As for the usual programs and activities, they are still running smoothly. Be sure to check out our activity timetable on our website or on Facebook page. |

During the last few weeks, our afternoon teatime has focused on getting social, and we have spent time discussing our goals for the session. We have also welcomed three new staff members during the last two months! This capable trio includes Georgie, Lacey and Flynn. During this time Zoe C has acquired full-time employment and had her last day with us in late September. Over the past few months, key group activities have included sardines, golden child, shark attack, pickleball, soccer, cricket, and dodgeball! This has incorporated teamwork, navigation, hand-eye coordination, leadership opportunities, and developing an understanding of game rules. Whilst these activities have been the priority, our participants also engaged in games of basketball, Cluedo, gymnastics challenges, tag and more! We are seeing excellent progress during Golden Goals time - when your young people continue to practice an individual skill. Each young person sets a goal, which they will revisit each week. We have celebrated many achievements, with participants using art in new mediums & and working on gymnastic abilities. others are developing their cricket skills, and seeing great achievement in Basketball, some have been demonstrating an interest in working on cooking skills, expanding their horizons, and setting new goals that are artistic, and fashion-related! A participant recently stated their 'why' for Golden Goals - their comment focused on trying something new, getting better at something, and being motivated to achieve competitively. I think this really encapsulates a big part of what we are aiming for! |

The 2023 Hilltop Hike was a day to remember, and people in our community will continue to talk about this fantastic event. The Hilltop Hikes aim is to raise money for youth mental health in the Huon Valley Community. On October 14, people hiked up Scenic Hill to raise awareness on the issues of mental health and suicide prevention in the Huon Valley. Despite the weather, the turnout was fantastic, and it was great to see everyone show up for such a great cause. There is still time to donate to the Hilltop Hike, we have raised over $52,00 so far! We are continuing to raise money until November, and the total will change ahead of the Gala being held on Friday 3rd November to raise more funds! A massive thank you to everyone who has supported the Hilltop Hike - without the determination and dedication of our community this would not be possible! |
