Earth Observation Data DB

Are you sometimes like me? You don't know which remote sensing data are available and where? So, I started to create a database and collecting this information.

In the related blog post I talk more about this database and that you can participate in improving this database.

Sentinel-3 Land Altimetry Thematic Products go Operational

The new Altimetry Thematic Products over Inland Waters, Sea-Ice and Land Ice surfaces are now available with the Baseline Collection 005. Those products have already been available since July 2022 as pilot products.

The old products Level 1B (SR_1_SRA_), Level 1BS (SR_1_SRA_BS) and Level 2 (SR_2_LAN_) will no longer be produced.

50-years of Landsat - The Collection 2 Archive

Actually meanwhile the start of the Landsat mission is 51 years ago, but now there is an article explaining the advantages and the progression of the Collection 2 compared to it's predecessor. Notably, the Collection 2 products have improved geolocation and, for the first time, the USGS provides a global inventory of Level 2 surface reflectance and surface temperature products. Read more in the article.

New Indicators Provided by the CERTO Data Portal

The CERTO project is a research initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme that aims to provide a harmonized capability to monitor water quality from lakes, through deltas, coastal waters and to the open ocean.

The version two prototype provides new indicators within the data portal.

GIS Day – November 15, 2023

The GIS Day 2023 takes place on the 15th of November within the Geography Awareness Week. On this date several events are hosted at schools, organisations or other communities. It's meant to celebrate the brilliant technology of GIS and its contributions to the real world. The GIS Day was inspired by American activist and lawyer, Ralph Nader in 1999, who felt that this was a good way to spread the knowledge of geography and GIS technology. Nowadays, GIS Day is celebrated by over 100,000 people around the world.

Why you can Always eat the Dessert

Have you ever wondered why you can still eat a slice of cake after a big dinner? The answer lies in the phenomenon of sensory-specific satiety, which means that we get bored of eating the same food and want something different. This may have helped our ancestors get a balanced diet, but it can also lead us to overeat in today’s world of abundant and calorie-rich foods. Learn more about how variety affects our appetite, and how to use it to your advantage.

  • Why do we always have room for dessert?

That's it for this issue. I hope you enjoyed this collection of news. Stay tuned for the next edition, which will arrive in your inbox in about two weeks.
