The past quarter has been challenging for everyone, and Foodshaala is no exception. As you know, Foodshaala envisions a world where everyone is able to make healthy food a part of their daily life. We do this by enabling people to choose and access healthy food. During pre-Covid times, we were supplying affordable healthy meals to children from low-income families through our community kitchen. We were also conducting awareness programs at the school and community levels. With the schools closed, we are still pursuing our vision but through different activities. The outbreak of COVID-19 has taken a toll on the availability of adequate and healthy food, especially for the underprivileged sections of our society. We are distributing milk packets and nutrition kits to children in Delhi, in collaboration with the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). We are also supporting the NALSAR for Migrant Workers initiative to provide food, health and hygiene supplies, and travel assistance to stranded migrant workers all across India. You can find more information about these initiatives and support our work using the links below. Also check out below an inspiring story from one of our staff members, Vimlesh ji. A homemaker when we hired her, she is now our head cook inspiring more women to join our kitchen. We hope you are taking good care of your physical, mental and spiritual health and well-being during these difficult times. Maintaining a healthy body with a strong immunity is vital to protect ourselves from COVID-19. Do check out our blog, where we provide some healthy recipes and tips on handling food safely during the pandemic. Finally, we have some great news to share with you. Do take a peek below to find out. Stay healthy and safe! And happy eating! Raadhika Gupta |

Providing Milk and Nutrition Kits to Children in Delhi The COVID-19 crisis has severely affected food and nutrition security for lakhs of people from the poor and vulnerable sections. If children do not get the right nutrition, it will not only affect their immunity to fight diseases now, but also their health and productivity in future. We joined the 'Delhi Against Malnutrition' campaign of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) to ensure that children stay well-nourished during this difficult time. In collaboration with DCPCR, we distributed more than 20,000 milk packets and 12,000 nutrition kits to children. | | |

Meet our head cook, Vimlesh ji: "I have gained a lot of confidence; I now go out without covering my face with a dupatta." "I was a homemaker earlier. My husband is an auto driver and was struggling to make loan repayments for his auto. Now, I have also started earning through Foodshaala and contribute towards the repayment. My children have started taking tuitions in addition to their regular school. I have also gained a lot of confidence since I joined. Earlier, I used to cover my face with a dupatta whenever I stepped outside my house. But I now go for food delivery without covering my face with a dupatta or bothering about such traditional practices. I want Foodshaala to grow so more and more women like me can work here and lead better lives.” |
