Big Skies

Here’s a painting that’s all about the sky. So topical as we find ourselves gazing hopefully at the weather and hoping the clouds are bringing desperately needed rain to drought affected areas, especially in the Central West. When the landscape opens up as you descend on the western side of the Blue Mountains, that ‘big sky’ view is just so beautiful and, well.. big!

I'm returning to the Corner Store Gallery in Orange in November to hold some more workshops. Last time participants created their own 'small world' and took home a framed piece. This time, we'll be making 'big sky' paintings like the one shown below. This photo was taken with my suburban skyscape as a backdrop - but this painting workshop will be all about the panoramas of rural and coastal landscapes.

For painting clear blue skies, mauvey sunsets or dark & stormy clouds - watercolour is the perfect medium for capturing big sky atmosphere.

I really enjoy working with rural galleries, not only because it gives me an excuse for a road trip - but because the three mentioned below are all run by hard working young(ish) individuals with great passion and commitment to art, their families and local communities. Whether you are an art lover, collector or artist, please have a look at what these lovely galleries have to offer by exploring their websites via the links provided. All of these towns are great weekend away locations. I'd be very happy to share recommendations for food, wineries and accommodation - please get in touch if you'd like some suggestions.

Lastly, thank you to all who supported the recent initiative 'Art for Bales' which at last count has raised close to a meaningful $50K for drought relief,

and

thank you for your continued support for my art making :)
