Electric buses are better for our health and climate. Let's ask the City Schools of Decatur to switch to electric school buses and take other climate action! |
Electric vehicles (EVs) do not produce particulate matter (PM) tailpipe pollution. PM pollution is associated with premature birth, asthma, and other problems in kids. In adults, the pollution is associated with premature death, heart disease, and respiratory problems. Electric buses are QUIETER and have the potential to be renewably powered. There isn't any long term solution with gas guzzlers. There is federal FUNDING to help schools transition to electric school buses. We can help our school make the transition to e-busses.

1/23/2020. Climate activists at the city's strategic plan kick-off calling for Decatur to commit to 100% clean energy. |

Change happens when people speak up and are present at the time that decisions are being made. During the City of Decatur's recent Strategic Planning process, many people in our community attended multiple roundtable discussions and advocated for climate action. In response, the City of Decatur made climate action one of its main priorities and is making strong climate commitments. City Schools of Decatur (CSD) operates separately from the City of Decatur and is beginning its own Strategic Planning process. There is only one main public engagement meeting. The time to advocate is NOW!

Show Up at the Strategic Plan Meeting! September 6th at 6:30 pm at Beacon Hill Middle School |
From Superintendent Dr. Fehrman: "Our first community engagement meeting will be September 6th at 6:30 pm at Beacon Hill Middle School. This meeting is open to all staff, students, parents and community members. This will be the main input meeting to gather stakeholder input to share their vision for what CSD can become in the next 5 years, including what we can do to make sure we are addressing climate change and innovative practices. So, we encourage all to come.” |
A few days before the meeting, we will send out some suggestions to advocate for. Most of these are in the petition (see button above). |
P.S. We decided that our EV meet and greet would be postponed to October 2nd...stay tuned for more details. |
