The publication of our two latest books have been held up by the Covid lockdown. As much as we are keen to get the books out there, we appreciate that the safety and health of New Zealanders are more important. So thank you to the authors and readers who have been patiently waiting for the books and to CVD Typesetters and Ligare Printing who have rushed to make up for lost time. |

This is the third anthology to be published by Cloud Ink Press. fresh ink 2021 explores a theme of Covid-19 and consists of stories, essays, poetry, flash fiction and artwork from 46 different contributors. Although the pandemic still looms so large in our lives, the writing in this collection is by no means all doom and gloom or even besotted by the virus. There is laughter, sorrow and emotion, some amazing stories and positivity in unusual circumstances. The 46 authors and artists in this anthology have come from far and wide, all over New Zealand from Otago to Northland and several from overseas. The work in this anthology was chosen by editor Tina Shaw from numerous submissions. |

The inspiration from nature in much of the poetry ties in well with the kākāpō on the front cover, designed, like the previous editions, by Suzanne Day. A percentage of proceeds from the book will be donated to the Department of Conservation Kākāpō Recovery Programme. fresh ink 2021 will be available in bookshops from October. Or you can order your copy online from the Cloud Ink Press online shop. |

The Time Lizard's Archaeologist by Trish Hanifin |
This is not just a unique title. It is a unique novel. The Time Lizard's Archaeologist is a speculative novel set in the past, present, and future. With its intertwining of mythology, psychology, philosophy, ecology and environmental concerns, The Time Lizard’s Archaeologist explores the psyche of the modern world. It is a story which changes gear as it changes time, and shifts from one state of consciousness to another. A wonderful escape. |
In 2019 the unpublished manuscript of The Time Lizard’s Archaeologist was awarded second place in the Ashton Wylie Mind Body Spirit awards. The book will be launched in Timaru at a special event at Hector Black’s in Timaru, planned for Sunday 31st October at 2pm. The launch will be followed by an open mic event – both music and spoken word. A more northerly launch is planned, but this depends on Covid levels and may be as changeable as the timelines in the novel. We will let you know. |

Cloud Ink will be accepting submissions during the months of OCTOBER and NOVEMBER 2021. We are happy to consider adult or young adult fiction and writers need to be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Please submit only one manuscript at a time. The manuscript should have been assessed by a professional assessor and thoroughly proof-read before you send it. Include a cover letter with your full contact details, short bio, 1-page synopsis and the first 3 chapters (or 50 pages) of your manuscript. Please submit all materials in a single Word document (.doc or .docx). We prefer 1.5 or double line spacing, and Times New Roman or other simple, clear font. Please send the file to info@cloudink.co.nz. If we want to read the full manuscript, we will contact you, and if not you will be advised via email when your submission has been considered. It may take up to three months for us to get back to you. Please note that we are unable to provide individual editorial advice on the first submission. Cloud Ink operate as an independent publishing company, but it is operated on a voluntary basis and all the authors are expected to contribute some money and expertise to the publishing process. Please also note that when we receive your manuscript, you will be automatically added to our newsletter subscriber list. You will be able to unsubscribe. We look forward to reading your work. |

For Cloud Ink, and any publisher of printed books, booksellers are the lifeline and the conduit between the reader and the publisher. Shrӧdinger’s Books are a small, independent bookseller who only opened in 2019 but are already involved in hosting book groups and authors signings. And of course they stock Cloud Ink’s books. 2021 Nielsen Book Publisher of the Year Congratulations to Mākaro Press, the 2021 Nielsen Book Publisher of the Year.
